Transforming AgTech: Planting the Seeds of the Future

Silicon Valley Forum today announced its upcoming "Transforming AgTech" week, in partnership with Callaghan Innovation, New Zealand government, and Wharf42, which will take place from April 18th - April 21st, 2016. The week kicks off with a three-day AgTech Immersion Program, a tour through Northern California filled with presentations, activities, and visits to farms and facilities using and investing in innovative agriculture technology. Site visits include farm management software company Granular, Tucker Farms almonds, Driscoll's, UC Davis, and Salinas City Hall, among others. Attendees will also enjoy a drone demonstration with Yamaha (News - Alert) and PrecisionHawk.

The AgTech week culminates with "Transforming AgTech" on April 21st, a full-day conference at GSVlabs in Redwood ity, California. The day's discussions will center on some of the hottest topics and issues facing the agriculture industry today-big data, internet-connected farms, precision agriculture, field sensors, drone implementation, and more. Attendees will hear how New Zealand farmers and technologists are digitalizing farming practices to deliver greater value and sustainability, via methods and technology with potential for positive impact on industrial agriculture around the world. Transforming AgTech will bring together industry leaders from Agri Optics, Silicon Valley Robotics, Rezare Systems, AquaSpy, TracMap, PrecisionHawk, and more.

"Silicon Valley Forum is delighted to partner with New Zealand on our first-ever AgTech conference," said executive director Denyse Cardozo. "Innovative new tech creations have already created a rapid shift in daily life-it's exciting to see technologists turning that inventiveness toward agriculture and sustainability, especially as the demand for fresh, healthy food is outpacing our current methods."

"In both New Zealand and the US, Wharf42 has been working with representatives of the farming, food processing, AgTech innovation and AgTech investor sectors," said founder Peter Wren-Hilton. "We strongly believe that emerging digital technologies have the potential to create a profound impact on the Farm of the Future. Wharf42 is delighted to have been selected to co-organize this major event."

"Callaghan Innovation is looking forward to partnering on this conference with Wharf42 and Silicon Valley Forum," stated Victoria Hallum, Manager International Policy and Partnerships at Callaghan Innovation. "It's not only a great way to showcase New Zealand as a leading force in the AgTech industry, but a chance to spotlight an important discussion about sustainability that affects a future we all share."
