Technavio Announces Top Four Emerging Trends Impacting the Global Electric Hand Dryer Market Through 2020

Technavio's latest report on the global electric hand dryer market provides an analysis on the most important trends expected to impact the market outlook through 2020. Technavio defines an emerging trend as a factor that has the potential to significantly impact the market and contribute to its growth or decline.

The top four emerging trends driving the global electric hand dryer market according to Technavio's consumer and retail research analysts are:

  • Product innovation
  • Increased demand from APAC and ROW
  • Better confidence in the model
  • Customization trend

Product innovation

Manufacturers are continuously launching several innovative products to address the challenges faced, which in turn is driving the hand dryers market. In 2014, Mitsubishi (News - Alert) Electric US Cooling & Heating Division (Mitsubishi Electric) announced the launch of the Jet Towel. The new slim model of hand dryer is the first high-speed hand dryer to use two jets of air to dry hands in 10 seconds. In 2015, Excel Dryer Inc. launched the Green Apple (News - Alert) XLERATOReco hand dryer, which boasts speed and sound control. The new HEPA Filtration System also received a Product Innovation award from Architectural Products magazine, 2014.

Increased demand for hand dryers from APAC and ROW

An increasing demand for hand dryers is emerging from APAC and ROW as these regions are experiencing significant growth in the hospitality industry. Moreover, increased investments and construction in countries such as India and China are also taking place. The governments of developing countries are making efforts to improve the infrastructures of the countries, which is encouraging the development of high-facility malls and offices.

"There is an increased use of hand dryers in schools, hospitals, and restaurants, because of the increased health awareness and health concerns. Therefore, the hand dryers market is expected to witness increased emand in APAC and ROW during the forecast period," says Vijay Sarathi, one of Technavio's lead analysts, specializing in research on the general retail goods and services industry.

Better confidence in the model

As customers are increasingly interested in hand dryers that dry the hands in short amount of time, vendors are working to improve the working mechanisms of hand dryers. Earlier, hand dryers would take about 40 seconds to dry hands but now it takes only 10-11 seconds. This will raise the confidence level of customers in the model and will encourage them to use hand dryers.

One of the major factors driving vendors to introduce better working mechanisms of hand dryers is the increased usage of hand dryers in schools and universities. For instance, World Dryer's SMARTdri Plus was successfully installed in Wheaton Academy, which required a hand dryer that was not loud. World Dryer's VERDEdri high-speed hand dryer was selected as the winner of the Dean's List Award by Private University Products and News (a publication) for its contribution to private colleges' mission of providing second-to-none facilities and services. Therefore, the market is expected to witness better confidence in the model during the forecast period.

Customization trend

Another fast-trending factor that has captivated the market is customization of products and services as it facilitates the creation of a unique value proposition and creates a differentiating factor compared to competitors. In the electric hand dryers market, due to intense competition between the competitors, manufacturers are offering customization to suit the needs of users.

"World Dryer introduced SMARTdri Plus, which is an energy-efficient and high-speed hand dryer that allows customization of high-speed airflow, sound quality, and heating options. Another leading player, Excel Dryer, with its digital imaging technology, allows buyers to design their own high-speed Xlerator hand dryers with company logos, team mascots, school colors, or any other image," says Vijay.
