CCAGW Joins Coalition Press Conference For PITFA Passage

Tomorrow, Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) President Tom Schatz, and a coalition representing 45 nonpartisan organizations, will hold a press conference urging the Senate to pass the Permanent Internet Tax Freedom Act (PITFA), which is currently embedded in the conference report for H.R. 644, the Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act of 2015 and would permanently bans states from taxing Internet access.

In 1998, the Internet Tax Freedom Act (ITFA) placed a moratorium on discriminatory taxes on the Internet and taxes on Internet access. With widespread bipartisan support, the Internet tax ban was extended in 2001, 2004, and 2008. For 17 years, the ban on Internet taxes has benefited millions of Americans by empowering them to conduct transactions on the Internet free from the fear of additional tax burdens. The permanent elimination of taxes on Internet access would provide tremendous economic certainty for the nation.
