Technavio Announces Top Five Vendors in the Global Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems Magnetic Sensors Market 2016-2020

Technavio has announced the top five leading vendors in their recent global micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) magnetic sensors market report. This research report also lists five other prominent vendors that are expected to impact the market during the forecast period.

Competitive vendor landscape

The global MEMS magnetic sensors market is fragmented with the presence of small and large semiconductor vendors. MEMS technology is increasingly being integrated with magnetic sensors to offer low-cost, high-precision products. Miniaturization of magnetic sensors has significant growth potential as most OEMs are looking to save space by opting for smaller components.

Over the next few years, the competitive environment in the market is expected to intensify due to the entry of new vendors, a rise in product extensions, technological innovations, and mergers and acquisitions (M&A). A lead analyst for the sensors industry at Technavio, Asif Gani says "To survive and succeed in this competitive environment, vendors need to distinguish their products and service offerings through a clear and unique value proposition. Vendors must also be aware of emerging technologies that could have an impact on their product lines."

The top five global MEMS magnetic sensors vendors are:

Asahi Kasei Microsystems

Asahi Kasei Microsystems products are used in optical disc drives and air conditioner fans, digital camera image-stabilization mechanisms, pointer control devices, mobile phone open and close detection switches, and automobile power windows.

The company offers a broad range of advanced magnetic sensor products and makes vital contributions to smartphones and other portable electronic devices. The company launched a 6-axis electronic compass for mobile devices and GPS-enabled digital cameras which reduces the number of required components by half and enhances the process efficiency of incorporating electronic compasses in products.

Allegro Microsystems

Allegro Microsystems is the second-most prominent vendor in the MEMS magnetic sensors market.

In September 2015, the company launched a two-wire Hall-effect latch A1245, which offers enhanced magnetic sensitivity and attains magnetic stability over the full operatin temperature range of -40°C to 150°C.

In November 2015, the company announced a unique dual-channel latch with 2D sensing for determining position and direction.

Honeywell (News - Alert)

In May 2014, Honeywell introduced the industry's first Nanopower Anisotropic Magnetoresistive sensor integrated circuits (ICs). The high sensitivity of these ICs allows design engineers to reduce system costs.

These ICs are used in dishwashers; microwaves; washing machines; refrigerators and coffee machines; consumer electronics such as notebook computers, tablets, and cordless speakers; and battery-operated applications including water and gas meters, electricity meters, industrial smoke detectors, exercise equipment, security systems, and handheld computers.

In August 2014, the company launched its linear Hall-effect magnetic position sensor IC, expanding its existing product portfolio and enhancing its share in the market.

Infineon Technologies (News - Alert)

Infineon Technologies launched a highly accurate 3D magnetic sensor with low power consumption for consumer and industrial applications in May 2015. The sensor introduces magnetic sensing to new applications by making the sensors smaller, more robust, and more accurate. These sensors have allowed for smaller and more energy-efficient e-meters.

In October 2014, the company introduced dual-sensor package devices for safety-critical automotive applications.

Some of Infineon Technologies' subsidiaries include Infineon Technologies Asia Pacific, Infineon Technologies Nordic, Infineon Technologies North America, and LS Power Semitech. In October 2015, Fairchild Semiconductor approached the company for a possible acquisition.

Bosch

Bosch is known for investing in R&D and is committed to developing new cost and energy efficient products which have applications in various industries.

In October 2015, the company announced collaboration with Dialog Semiconductor to develop a low-power smart sensor wireless platform for Internet of Things (IoT) devices which would allow improved gesture recognition.

In September 2015, the company launched its first MEMS sensor hub, featuring low-power consumption and longer battery life.

In July 2015, the company announced its plans to create a graphene-based magnetic sensor, which is 100 times more sensitive than an equivalent silicon-based device. The company has been investigating the possible application of two-dimensional material in its magnetic, humidity, pressure, gas, and sound pressure devices. It uses hexagonal boron nitride for its magnetic sensors due to low cost of the material along with the technical performance.

Five other prominent vendors identified by Technavio are: Melexis, Aichi Steel, STMicroelectronics (News - Alert), Yamaha, and Alps Electric.
