WhereScape Introduces New Version of its Automated Data Profiling, Discovery and Design Solution

WhereScape, the data warehouse automation pioneer with software solutions for profiling, building, extending and managing data warehouses, analytic systems and big data platforms, today introduced WhereScape 3D 2.5, a new version of its data profiling, discovery and design solution for planning and reality-testing data-driven development projects. WhereScape 3D enables the automated discovery and documentation of source systems such as operational platforms, cloud databases, and existing analytical and big data environments to improve data quality and accelerate time to deployment.

Highlighting the WhereScape 3D 2.5 release is the ability to seamlessly promote completed WhereScape 3D designs and associated metadata and documentation to WhereScape RED, WhereScape's flagship data warehouse automation platform for development and deployment, by simply pushing a button. In addition, WhereScape 3D is now available for Teradata (News - Alert) Cloud, which delivers sophisticated analytics as a service with rapid provisioning and scalability in a subscription model. WhereScape is demonstrating WhereScape 3D 2.5 at TDWI in booth #200.

"For data-driven organizations, WhereScape 3D provides the type of automated discovery and design platform necessary to meet the pace of change," said John L. Myers, Managing Research Director, Business Intelligence with Enterprise Management Associates (EMA (News - Alert)), a Boulder, CO-based analysis and consulting firm. "Using WhereScape 3D 2.5, organizations are able to de-risk projects by testing their assumptions with real data up front, in hours or days rather than weeks or months."

In a recently published Product Brief Improving Design for Data Warehouse Automation wth WhereScape 3D 2.5, Myers wrote "EMA considers the agile design and deployment concepts inherent in WhereScape 3D to be core to the direction of proactive organizations. Being able to automatically discover and standardize components of analytical environment design is a key ingredient to implementing analytics faster and more reliably."

EMA recognized WhereScape 3D and WhereScape RED as "superior options for organizations that need to break down the walls between discovery, design, and implementation to effectively productionalize analytical environment design and speed delivery at the pace of business changes." EMA also positioned "WhereScape as a leader in the field of discovery and design for data warehouses."

WhereScape 3D brings together automated schema discovery, a metadata repository, and a design interface to enable and automate the design process. This approach enables organizations to improve the speed of design for their analytical environments, such as enterprise data warehouses (EDW), data marts, analytic and big data environments, and data vaults. WhereScape 3D enables organizations to discover, profile, and assess source systems automatically; determine the impact of changes based on data lineage information from the metadata repository; and create and maintain source systems and design documentation based on metadata information.

WhereScape 3D greatly accelerates investigation and risk assessment activities. Use cases include:

  • A detailed, systematic profiling of existing source systems in order to understand what dimensional or normal-form warehouses can be built from the available source data.
  • Analyzing new or updated source systems against an in-place data warehouse to determine what impact those sources systems will have on the existing BI infrastructure.
  • Proofing custom schema design, or a licensed data model against available source data.
  • Working backwards from prototyped or implemented reports, dashboards or analytical applications and their data requirements into data warehouse design and source system data availability.

"WhereScape 3D provides a compelling solution for quickly profiling, scoping, sizing development projects as well as providing detailed risk assessment prior to the development processes," said WhereScape President Mark Budzinski. "Accomplishing this level of automated design testing early in the process allows for confirmation and acceptance of the design with business stakeholders without having to create a fully operational environment. The integration of WhereScape 3D and RED, and our data-driven, agile, iterative methodology encourages collaboration with business units and enables organizations to greatly reduce lengthy development timeframes that plague many implementations," Budzinski said.

About WhereScape

WhereScape is the data warehouse automation pioneer. WhereScape designs, develops, sells and supports WhereScape 3D, the industry's first data warehouse discovery tool; and WhereScape RED, the industry's first and best integrated development environment for building, deploying, managing and renovating data warehouses and analytic systems. WhereScape's products are used in every kind of today's commercial environment: from normal-form enterprise data warehouses and data vaults, through user access layers and tiers of dependent data marts, to standalone data marts and reporting systems.

More than 700 customers use WhereScape's products to build data warehouses, with fewer people, fewer diversions, no missed deadlines, and no unmet user expectations - in day or weeks, instead of months or years. WhereScape has offices in Portland, Oregon; Auckland, New Zealand; Reading, UK and Singapore. For more information, please visit www.wherescape.com
