UCLA Anderson to Host PULSE 2016


The annual PULSE Conference hosted by UCLA Anderson's Center for Management of Enterprise in Media, Entertainment, and Sports (MEMES) is bringing together leaders in film, sports, music and media industries to share insights and perspective on the current trends, opportunities and challenges impacting the entertainment, sports and technology industries. The conference, designed for MBA students and executives who are working in media, entertainment, sports and technology, will be held on January 29, 2016, in Korn Convocation Hall.

This year's keynote speakers include Peter Guber, chairman and CEO of Mandalay Entertainment Group and co-owner of the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Dodgers, and Dan Beckerman ('96), president and CEO of AEG and 2016 UCLA Anderson Center for MEMES Game Changer Award Recipient.

Several panels and breakout sessions will cover a wide variety of topics, ranging from virtual reality, future of television, and the role of big data in the decision making process in entertainment. Other speakers include:

DJ Roller, co-founder of NextVR; Eric Johnson, EVP Global Multimedia Ad Sales at ESPN; Jim Lanzone, CEO and president of CBS Interactive; Aysegul Cansizoglu, head of data science at Hulu (News - Alert); David Greenbaum, executive vice president of production at Fox Searchlight and director, Fox Innovation Lab. Additional panelists include executive from companies such as AEG, Universal Music, ESPN (News - Alert) and Fox Searchlight.

"PULSE 2016 will give senior industry leaders and students the opportunity to discuss current business trends and future innovations in digital media, live and filmed entertainment and everything in between," says Sanjay Sood, UCLA Anderson professor of marketing and the MEMES faculty director. "The conference has a very strong focus on the future, with a slate of outstanding speakers working at the intersection of entertainment, sports and technology."

Featured again this year is the MBA Media and Entertainment case competition, which brings ogether teams of MBA students from top universities around the country to analyze and present a solution to a real world entertainment business problem. The Center for MEMES and the Entertainment Management Association established this competition to provide students with a competitive learning experience in which they gain exposure to issues in the media and entertainment space, while also giving entertainment executives access to creative solutions from the future leaders of tomorrow. This year's competition is sponsored by Paramount.
