Aeon Nexus Launches CityNext Website and Consolidated eServices for the City of Doral, FL

With the help of Aeon Nexus, the city of Doral, Fla., has become one of the first U.S. cities to begin migrating its website and key administrative and non-emergency services to the cloud.

The Miami suburb, population 54,000, is the third-fastest growing city in the country, according to the U.S. Census. Doral, located in Miami-Dade County, launched its new smart city, full-featured website and citizen eServices on January 18. Built on Microsoft (News - Alert) CityNext solutions, the new CityofDoral.com site is an "end to end citizen eservice environment," and includes the Azure cloud platform, Adxstudio Portals and Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online for Government.

"It's a holistic approach," said Brett Cocking, Aeon Nexus' Managing Director, whose company provided consulting services to drive the project. The new site is "not just making one part of the city more efficient; it is setting the standard for how a city should operate, deliver value and interact with its citizens."

John Daniels, Aeon Nexus' Multimedia Director, said the Doral website is one of the first city government sites to run its entire portal and 311 (non-emergency) infrastructure on the Microsoft Adxstudio Portals. Adxstudio and Dynamics CRM will automatically mange content and track 311 service requests such as street repairs, business license information, building code violations, and non-emergency police help.

"The entire project is costing the city significantly less and delivering substantial value far faster than comparable platforms," says Kiley Wittig, Aeon Nexus' Sales Director.

Citizen benefits include:

  • Citizen access to everything in one place. From reporting a pothole to checking visitor attractions and recreational sports schedules, the new site "manages the entire citizen relationship from one mobile-friendly portal."
  • Log-in via Facebook (News - Alert) or other social media. Once a citizen registers in "My Doral," he or she can log in via social media, which is especially helpful to those using smartphones and tablets and reduce the need for citizens to remember extraneous passwords.
  • Real-time interaction. Citizens will be constantly updated on the status of their service requests. "The minute anyone takes that request, you're going to get notified on your My Doral website and, if requested, receive an email," says Brett Cocking.

A second phase of the project will include a new enterprise business intelligence platform for city leaders.

Gladys Gonzalez, Doral's IT Director, said the city's digital strategy required a system-wide view and integrated approach to focus on three core smart-city functions: to collect, communicate and analyze data to proactively engage with residents.

"The end result will be that the city of Doral will be entirely cloud-based on the Microsoft Azure and Dynamics CRM Online platforms," she said.
