School Choice Supporters Unify for Press Conference in Augusta on 1/25

Students, parents, teachers, and community leaders will gather in Augusta (News - Alert) to show unified support for quality school choices for Maine families on Monday, January 25, organizers announced today.

The event, which will take place at 2 p.m. in the Maine State House Hall of Flags, will feature student and parent speakers representing public charter schools, private schools, homeschooling organizations, and virtual schools.

The goal of the rally is to show unified support for school choice in Maine and to raise awareness among parents about the school choice options available to families across the state.

The rally is timed to coincide with National School Choice Week (January 24-30, 2016), which will be America's largest-ever celebration of opportunity in education, featuring more than 16,000 events nationwide.

"Maine Associationof Charter Schools highlights great charter school options around the state every year during National School Choice Week," said Roger Brainerd (News - Alert) of Maine Association of Charter Schools. "Parents in Maine have a great number of options available to them; we look forward to spotlighting that this week."

"Public School Options exists to support every parent's ability to choose the right school for their child," said Ryan Gough of Public School Options. "Whatever shape that takes - from public charter to virtual learning - students thrive when their school matches their individual needs."

Event organizers include Maine Association of Charter Schools, Public School Options, Homeschoolers of Maine, Friedman Foundation, and Foundation for Excellence in Education.

National School Choice Week (January 24-30, 2016) will be America's largest-ever celebration of opportunity in education, featuring more than 16,000 independently organized events across all 50 states. A nonpartisan, nonpolitical public awareness effort, National School Choice Week shines a positive spotlight on effective education options for students, families, and communities around the country - from traditional public schools to public charter schools, magnet schools, online learning, private schools, and homeschooling.
