Torn & Glasser Purchases RF Biocidics' APEX System to Implement Chemical-Free Processing of Food Products Sold to Retailers and Restaurants

Torn & Glasser, a family-owned food importer, processor and distributor based in Southern California, purchased an APEX system from RF Biocidics, Inc. to provide a selection of chemical-free products to its retail and restaurant customers.

The fourth-generation APEX system will be used to treat at least 10 different varieties of food for Torn & Glasser (www.tornandglasser.com), which processes nuts, dried fruits, rice, beans, spices and other commodity products for customers across the U.S. RF Biocidics also worked with Torn & Glasser to develop a safe and effective processing program that would maintain the food's nutritional content, texture, color and taste.

RF Biocidics will install the APEX system this year in Torn & Glasser's processing facility in Pomona, California, where a single machine will be used to treat almonds, cashews, macadamia nuts and sesame seeds among several items. RF Biocidics' technology employs volumetric heating to remove pests and bacteria using radio frequency waves, providing an environmentally friendly solution that is suitable for both conventionally and organically grown products.

"This partnership with Torn & Glasser is a big step forward in bringing our chemical-free alternative for food processing to consumers," said RF Biocidics Chief Executive Officer Craig Powell. "We are able to provide Torn & Glasser with exceptional end quality for a wide variety of products while also offering technical and scientific expertise to support all of their needs."

RF Biocidics' patented food safety process was developed at the University of California, Davis. RF Biocidics seeks to change the way the food industry looks at food safety and the natural environment. The company brings together experts in biology, microbology, engineering, food safety and mathematics to change the way people think about the food they eat.
