Passive Optical Network Equipment Sales Accelerate in 3Q15, According to Dell'Oro GroupREDWOOD CITY, Calif., Dec. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- In a recently published report from Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the telecommunications, networks, and data center IT industries, the Passive Optical Networking (PON) equipment sales accelerated in 3Q15, growing even faster than the previous quarter. Looking at 3Q15 versus the year ago quarter, sales from Calix, Huawei, Technicolor, and ZTE rode the wave, with growth rates ranging from 20 percent Y/Y to 60 percent Y/Y. "The PON market drove the overall market with an impressive 25% Y/Y increase to a record level. The three largest service providers in China—China Telecom, China Unicom, and China Mobile—drove the market as these operators have substantially increased their deployments of PON customer premises equipment (ONTs). Although demand in China has grown significantly, this quarter we also saw an increase in PON demand in North America, where both larger Tier-1 service providers as well as many smaller regional operators have been investing in their fiber infrastructures inorder to offer gigabit services," said Alam Tamboli, Senior Analyst at Dell'Oro Group. "Both the DSL and Cable markets fell this quarter. DSL's decline was due to older technology (ADSL) falling at a much faster rate than newer technology (VDSL) could grow," Tamboli added.
