Protiviti Looks to Increase Impact as it Launches the Next Phase of its Global 'i on Hunger' Initiative; Goal to Increase Total Meals for People in Need to 2.6 Million

Powered by the mantra "Hunger doesn't stop and neither do we," Protiviti re-dedicates its efforts to provide meals for the hungry around the world

MENLO PARK, Calif., Nov. 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- According to the World Food Programme, one in nine people in the world go to bed hungry each night. Building on its 2015 success, global consulting firm Protiviti is kicking off the next phase of its 'i on Hunger' initiative with the goal of providing a cumulative total of 2.6 million meals delivered by the end of 2016 to those struggling with hunger across the globe. Protiviti looks to have additional focus on involving its clients, local communities and youth in the year ahead. Youth organizations such as Junior Achievement and AVID will be invited to join Protiviti's meal-packing events around the U.S. to give young people the opportunity to have a positive impact on hunger. Further, Protiviti will strive to continue strengthening connections with recipients of the food it provides; broadening its assistance; and forging deeper relationships within its local communities.

In the first year of Protiviti's 'i on Hunger' initiative, more than 1,634,000 meals were assembled, packed or delivered via 101 events and involved over 3,000 Protiviti employees, clients and friends as volunteers. By partnering with 49 non-profit organizations worldwide, the firm was able to deliver meals and impact lives in 28 countries including Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Haiti, India, Japan, Liberia, Mexico, Nepal, Nicaragua, Oman, Philippines, Singapore, South Sudan, Swaziland, The Netherlands, Vietnam, Uganda and the United States.

"While we were proud to have exceeded Protiviti's initial goal of providing one million meals for th hungry ahead of schedule in 2015, we know that hunger is a battle we must continue to fight," said Joseph Tarantino, president and CEO, Protiviti. "We remain committed to 'i on Hunger' and look forward to year two, as we stand together with our non-profit partners and our clients to provide nourishment and hope to people who need it most across the globe."

The next phase of the 'i on Hunger' program kicks off with an event today in Chicago. More than 400 volunteers from Protiviti's Chicago office plus family members, clients, and other community members who share the firm's enthusiasm for helping to end world hunger will hand pack life-saving meals at Chicago's Navy Pier for nonprofit Feed My Starving Children. The goal is to pack 140,000 meals. Feed My Starving Children will then coordinate delivery of the meals to malnourished children around the world. Volunteers from the staff of Chicago-based nonprofit Ounce of Prevention Fund, whose mission focuses on early childhood development, including the importance of good nutrition, will also participate.

To further help the hungry in Chicago, Protiviti volunteers will conduct a food drive concurrently with the meal-packing event, with donations of canned goods going to the Greater Chicago Food Depository. The food drive will ultimately extend the good that volunteers are able to do, so that children around the globe and Chicagoland families in need are provided with important assistance.

"We have a strong commitment to 'i on Hunger,' and its goal to improve lives," said Dan O'Keefe, a Protiviti senior managing director based in Chicago and leader of the initiative. "Our people have really taken our theme, 'Hunger doesn't stop and neither do we,' to heart around the world as we all have the ability to give back and can make a difference in the fight against hunger."

In addition to Feed My Starving Children, a preliminary list of Protiviti's non-profit partners includes: Ronald McDonald House, AVID, Capital Area Food Bank, Food For Thought, and Stop Hunger Now, among others.
