Apperian Extends Reach of Mobile Application Management and Security Platform to Deploy Anywhere

BOSTON, Nov. 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Apperian® Inc., the mobile application management (MAM®) and security company, today announced that it now supports universal app distribution through a variety of channels including existing private app stores, mobile device management (MDM) or enterprise mobility management (EMM) systems, via corporate portals, or direct to end user – without requiring device enrollment. With app-level controls, Apperian allows organizations to distribute apps enabled with the most modern, extensive policies even through legacy platforms and taking advantage of existing technology investments.

"Applying policy directly to a mobile app allows IT to provide security and management capabilities without requiring devices to be under MDM control," said Chris Hazelton, Research Director, Enterprise Mobility at 451 Research. "This approach aligns with today's mobile enterprise environments, where many devices are unmanaged, and provides IT with much-needed flexibility to distribute applications through unlimited channels, reaching end users in a way that makes sense for organizations' unique needs without sacrificing security."

Providing Managed & Secured Apps That Can Be Deployed Anywhere
With Apperian, individual mobile apps become policy-enabled and fully managed without requiring full mobile device management. Apperian eliminates the need for app code modification or proprietary SDKs and empowers IT and security professionals to centrally manage the full app lifecycle. This means that mobile apps can now be managed through the complete app lifecycle, yet distributed via existing distribution methods already in place.

A wide range of distribution channels can now benefit from the Apperian mobile application management and security platform and policy engine:

  • Delivery through Existing MDM or EMM environments – Organizations can now use Apperian to distribute managed apps through existing mobility tools, such as AirWatch by VMware, Good by BlackBerry, IBM MaaS360, MobileIron and more. This allows organizations to take advantage of Apperian's extensive policy library or create customized policies and overcome the common limitation that traditional MDM-centric tools present when trying to securely deploy apps to unmanaged devices.
  • Corporate Portals – Existing corporate portals can host Apperian policy-enabled apps so that secured and managed apps are available via existing workflows that potential app users currently use, maximizing existing infrastructure and IT investments.
  • Private App Stores – For organizations that have already created their own app store or are using a 3rd party private app store, Apperian policy-enabled apps can now be included, allowing administrators to utilize the comprehensive Apperian mobile application management and security back-end and policy engine, without the need for a separate app store environment.
  • App Distribution to Non-Managed Devices – With the need in some organizations for one or just a few apps to be secured and deployed, Apperian now supports direct download links in email, launched from barcodes, or included in other user communications. The downloaded apps are fully secured and managed, yet can be distributed without requiring MDM, EMM, or private enterprise app stores.

"There's a significant amount of work that goes into developing an enterprise mobile app, which makes driving adoption critical in order to maximize ROI," said Adam Bookman, co-founder of Propelics, a leader in enterprise mobile strategy and mobile app development. "With Apperian's support for universal app distribution, it allows us to securely deliver enterprise-ready apps with ease. Our clients can also leverage this by distributing policy-enabled apps to their end users using their existing systems and processes."

"As organizations today increase the pace of mobile app development they are also running into the common limitation of not being able to securely reach all users who can benefit from the apps," said Mark Lorion, Chief Marketing Officer at Apperian. "Our new support for universal app distribution allows those organizations to securely deploy mobile apps through their existing systems. As Apperian applies management and security at the individual app level, any user can be reached regardless of whether their device is managed or not."

This new support for universal app distribution is in addition to Apperian's full MAM platform and private, branded app store offering, still available to companies in need of a new or upgraded deployment solution.
