Humanetics Innovative Solutions, Inc. Honors Six-Year-Old Cancer Survivor

Humanetics Innovative Solutions, Inc., the global leader in the development of biofidelic crash test dummies, honored Liam Waldron, a six-year-old Cancer survivor at Humanetics headquarters Wednesday. Jason Beudert, the co-founder of A Special Wish Foundation, contacted Humanetics with a call for help. After losing part of his leg to a rare form of Cancer, Liam's only wish was to visit a crash test dummy facility and to see an actual crash test. Humanetics received the call and was delighted to partner with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, LLC (FCA) to make Liam's wish become a reality.

Liam's special day started at 8:00 AM after a short welcome by Humanetics President & CEO, Christopher J. O'Connor. Liam's personalized tour of Humanetics included a tour of the Finite Element Modeling division, the Anthropomorphic Test Device (ATD) Engineering department, the ATD Calibration and Instrumentation Lab and Manufacturing assembly, where Liam was able to see two demos, a pendulum test and the assembly of a crash test dummy. After the tour was complete, Liam was honored by Christopher O'Connor and enjoyed a special surprise visit by the original Vince & Larry, the crash test dummies popularized by the historic TV commercials that featured the, "You could learn a lot from a dummy; buckle your safety belt" campaign. In addition, many Humanetics' employees presented Liam with gifts, memorabilia, cake and most importantly, lots of love.

In 2014, Liam was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) just shy of his 5th birthday. Given so much downtime in treatment at the hospital and recovery at home, he became interested in crash tests and safety ratings for vehicles. He now regularly critiques cars he sees on the road based on his knowledge of their Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash test ratings.

"We are very excited to meet Liam and to welcome him into the Humanetics family. Liam is an incredibly intelligent boy and an inspiration to us all. His knowledge of car safety knows no bounds," said Christopher O'Connor, President and CEO of Humanetics. "To be a part of such a unique wish has been extremely rewarding for us here at Humanetics. I have no doubt that Liam will accomplish big things throughout his life."

Liam then had the opportunity to visit the FCA Proving Ground in Chelsea, Michigan where, thanks to Mary Perrin, Douglas Grimm and the FCA US Vehicle Impact Team, Liam was "Vehicle Impact Manager for the Day" and had the chance to oversee a live crash test. Liam also road tested a Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat and Viper and went off-roading in a Jeep Wrangler through the FCA Proving Ground mud pond. Liam was honored at FCA with his own employee badge and office, which was full of toys and FCA memorabilia.
