WISeKey Announced at C3 Okinawa That It is Making Available Its Cryptographic Root of Trust to Japanese IoT Manufactures to Bring Security to the Connected Devices

WISeKey, a cyber security company, today announced in Okinawa, Japan that it has made available its Cryptographic Root of Trust to Japanese IoT manufacturers and Chipmakers allowing them to add digital certificates on their chips at the hardware level to encrypt the communication and authenticate the devices. The Cabinet Office, Government of Japan organized its first conference on cyber security, "Cyber3 Conference Okinawa 2015 ? Crafting Security in a Less Secure World." The conference will be held over two days: November 7 and 8 (Sat.-Sun.). During this time, various stakeholders from around the world, including policymakers, business leaders, and security researchers will examine the reality we are now facing with our hyper-connected cyber issues and its implications for the future of the global economy.

WISeKey as member of the Global Growth Partners Company of the World Economic Forum and member of the Global Council shares the views of the Forum that we are on the cusp of a fourth industrial revolution. In fact, at this week's Annual Meeting of the New Champions in China, some experts even suggested we're already living through it. "It's not the next technological revolution - it's already here," said Klaus Schwab. During the event in Okinawa, Carlos Moreira, CEO and Founder of WISeKey will be debating these issues during the Session 1 C2 Industrial Efforts to Tackle Cyber Threats.

As with the three previous industrial revolutions, this one is about more than fancy new technology. The Spinning Jenny of the first industrial revolution didn't just make it faster and easier to produce textile products - it fundamentally altered the Western world's social landscape, from one dominated by small, rural craftsmen to factory workers and machine manufacturing. The third industrial revolution wasn't just about personal computers and mobile phones - research shows it increased the amount of time children spent studying and professionals spent working, breaking down the age-old barrier between public and private life.

WISeKey is at the forefront on this 4th revolution as in the last months it has signed agreements with several leading companies such as Microsoft (News - Alert) CitiNext, Dior, Hublot, Bulgari, HYT, Samsung, interested in using their Root of Trust to authenticate their IoT and connected objects and is in advance discussions with many more including NEC (News - Alert), GE, Jawbone, CISCO, etc.

At the World Economic Forum in Davos 2016, with the support of Kevin Spacey as ambassador to the company, WISeKey will organize a roundtable discussion about Cybersecurity and the 4th Industrial Revolution (News - Alert) showcasing the latest innovations on CyberSecure IoT and integration of Root of Trust with Blokchain. WISeKey is currently deploying large scale IoT digital identities for watches and other wearables devices using its Cryptographic Root of Trust and NFCTrusted© technology.

This trusted technology integrates wearable technology with ecure authentication and identification, in both physical and virtual environments, and empowers IoT and wearable devices to become secure transactional devices. WISeKey has patented this process in the USA as it is currently used by many IoT providers (for more information visit: http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-bool.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&co1=AND&d=PTXT&s1=wisekey&OS=wisekey&RS=wisekey).

The WISeKey/OISTE.ORG Root of Trust (RoT) serves as a common trust anchor, which is recognized by the operating system (OS) and applications, to ensure the authenticity, confidentiality and integrity of on-line transactions. With the Cryptographic Root of Trust embedded on the device, the IoT product manufacturers can use code-signing certificates and a cloud-based signature-as-a-service to secure interactions among objects and between objects and people.

At the heart of this 4th Industrial Revolution strategy is the OISTE-WISeKey Cryptographic Root of Trust which has been actively used since 1999 by over 2.6 billion desktop, browsers, mobile devices, SSL certificates and Internet of Things' devices. The OISTE WISeKey Cryptographic Root of Trust is ubiquitous and universal, and a pioneer in the identification of objects.

It is estimated that the global wearable market will grow at an annual rate of 35% over the next five years. The rapid growth of the number of connected devices is driving the shift from the current traditional mobile payment method to highly secure transactions from wearable devices using trusted communications and authentication technology. WISeKey's Cryptographic Root of Trust and NFCTrusted© technology enables these wearable devices to connect safely and make secure payments and other transactions.

The WISeID NFCTrusted© can be embedded in a connected device without requiring device modification or app downloads. WISeKey's NFCTrusted© technology is an evolution of the WISeAuthentic solution that WISeKey has already deployed with several leading luxury brands, including over 1 million watches digitally tagged and for which WISeKey recently obtained a US patent (http://goo.gl/ozgOQm). In February 2015, WISeKey and Bulgari launched the first ever intelligent mechanical watch using WISeKey's NFCTrusted© technology (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAyKfPOYwws), which allows the watch to execute payments and other transactions without using a mobile phone or other devices connected to the internet.

NFCTrusted© authentication tags incorporate a WISeKey cryptographically secure digital certificate to prove authenticity. NFCTrusted© tags can be embedded in virtually any product, piece of equipment or common household item, and users can verify authenticity with an NFC-enabled smart phone, watch, connected device or other mobile device. This technology not only optimizes security and convenience, but also eliminates the need for special readers or other equipment for tag (News - Alert) authentication by using proof of presence. "The combination of trust and convenience opens the door for the use of WISeKey's NFCTrusted© tags in diverse markets to support a variety of IoT applications," said Carlos Moreira, CEO of WISeKey.
