OpenBar Launches A Virtual Bar Enabling Users To Partake In Fitting, Meaningful Conversations

OAKLAND, Calif., Nov. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- OpenBar, a consumer platform that provides a virtual bar experience allowing users to join conversations and share content they care about, announced its official launch today. The app, founded by parent company BARTRENDr, is a social network that lets users enjoy all of the social gratifications of going to a bar but with added benefit of being able to do it at any time. With an algorithm that compares with what's behind Spotify and iTunes Genius, OpenBar creates conversation starting points and enables patrons to connect either in groups or private conversations.

Whether a user wants to discuss current issues, philosophy, sports, politics, trivia, science, dating, etc., OpenBar connects like-minded individuals, allowing them to find the right people and connect in a group or intimate setting. Over the past three months, the company conducted a study of 50,000 of BARTRENDr's users to find out what consumers really wanted from a social media platform. The results revealed that 81% of users stated that some of their favorite social media features are found on Whisper, but they would prefer a platform that allowed them to have a consistent personality, not just anonymous, and more grown-up conversations.

"Since lanching BARTRENDr, the team realized that we were on to something bigger. While the app started as a platform to check out the bar scene, we found out that users were really looking to find more ways to engage with each other," said OpenBar Co-Founder and CEO, Devon Bergman. "Answering the requests of our users, we've decided to launch an entirely renovated version with a more enhanced consumer focus. With OpenBar, you can meet new people, strike up a dialog, find the conversations that are right for you, or just sit back and enjoy following the chatter."

OpenBar's platform has three main pages: "Trending," "Latest," and "Mine."  On all pages, users have the option to "share what's going on" and make a post including what they are drinking, where they are, a photo, or general thoughts they'd like to start a conversation surrounding. Conversations can be public or private and the app offers real conversations in real-time.

"Our main goal of OpenBar is to give users the opportunity to start personal conversations as well as with larger groups regarding topics that interest them most. For example, if you like to discuss baseball with your OpenBar friends, the app will not only suggest other related conversations you may like to take part in, but individuals that best align with your personality," added Bergman.

OpenBar is available on both iOS and Android.  Users can participate in private conversations, start open chats and comment on shared posts.  Sharing the bar-like theme, there is also an option to "cheers" other users.
