FedCentric Technologies, LLC Tapped to Provide Industry Leadership for National Science Foundation's Big Data South Regional Innovation Hub

FAIRFAX, Va., Nov. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of North Carolina's Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI) will co-direct a new, national effort to develop a Big Data Regional Innovation Hub serving 16 Southern states and the District of Columbia. Among the 29 Senior Personnel chosen to lead the South Region, FedCentric Technologies was only among the very few selected to represent private industry.

FedCentric Technologies is a Veteran-Owned Small Business specializing in "Big Data" applications that exceed the limits of more traditional approaches. Commodity-based, High Density Systems are used to break through the boundaries and limitations of clustered Scale-Out Servers and Cloud-based Systems.

The South Big Data Regional Innovation Hub (South BD Hub)—to be managed jointly by Georgia Tech and UNC-Chapel Hill—is part of the National Science Foundation's four Big Data Regional Innovation Hubs (BD Hubs) announced today. The new initiative aims to build innovative public-private partnerships that address regional challenges through big data analysis.

FedCentric's expertise High Performance Data Analytics (HPDA) will help drive innovation in the following areas identified as top priorities in the South BD Hub scientific and social issues:

  • Health Care, Precision medicine and more specifically, cancer including a better understanding of the genomic basis for diversity.
  • Industrial Big Data, cyber-security measures including insider-threat detection and prevention.

Only last month, FedCentric completed a multi-phase bioinformatics pilot in collaboration with the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR) and Georgetown University.   The multi-disciplinary team, comprised of mathematicians, computer scientists and bioinformaticians, sought to extract knowledge and insights from advanced queries on large, complex databases in an ongoing effort to improve cancer diagnostics and treatments. FedCentric Laboratories in Eagan Minnesota hosted the pilot on one of its two 12 TByte SGI UV300 high performance systems.

FedCentric is also actively engaging with the University of Maryland to explore potential collaborations in cyber-security.

"Being appointed to the South Region's team of Senior Personnel is a great honor and we hope to use this opportunity to accelerate the kind of precision medicine and cyber-security initiatives we've already begun with academia and government." said Gerry Kolosvary, CEO of FedCentric Technologies.

FedCentric has already developed and implemented HPDA solutions as the prime contractor with the United States Postal Service and the Intelligence Community.  The Office of Science and Technology Policy at The White House recognized FedCentric for its groundbreaking big data solutions in Fall 2013.
