WHAT:

Safe and Sound Schools, in partnership with Boston University and the Boston University Police Department, is hosting a free evening event, "From Tragedy to a Safer Tomorrow." This event gathers K-12 and higher education school communities around a common goal: better preparing today's students for safe lives.

 

WHO:

Panelists include:

? Michele Gay - Founder/Executive Director of Safe and Sound Schools, mother of Josephine Gay, killed in the Sandy Hook tragedy

? Scott Pare - Deputy Director of Public Safety, Boston University

? Kristina Anderson - Founder of the Koshka Foundation for Safe Schools, survivor of the Virginia Tech shooting

? Mo Canady - Executive Director of the National Association of School Resource Officers

? Andre Ravenelle - Superintendent of Fitchburg Public Schools, President of the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents

? Moderator: Meghna Chakrabarti of WBUR, Boston's NPR (News - Alert) station

WHY:

Recent events show we must continue to broaden the conversation on school safety. This discussion offers personal experiences of school shooting survivors, as well as professional observations from school administrators and safety officers. Photo and interview opportunities will be available with the panelists during the event.
 

Safe and Sound Schools is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded by Sandy Hook parents devoted to educating and empowering school communities to improve school safety.
