Zodiac Pool Systems, Inc. Supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Two Susan G. Komen San Diego Events

According to BreastCancer.org, an estimated 231,840 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S. in 2015, along with 60,290 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer. In an effort to reduce these numbers and continue the fight against breast cancer, Zodiac Pool Systems, Inc. (Zodiac), a leading manufacturer of automatic pool cleaners and equipment based in North County San Diego, has pledged support for Susan G. Komen® San Diego (Komen San Diego) with two events in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

On Tuesday, November 3, 2015, many Zodiac employees, family and friends will participate in the 2015 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure®, under the banner of Zodiac's Providing Alternative Tomorrows with Hope (P.A.T.H.) program, which organizes Zodiac employee volunteer and outreach initiatives. Last year, the company raised more than $5,000 and hopes to exceed that number by offering a grand prize incentive to the Zodiac employee who collects the largest amount of donations on behalf of the "Zodiac Pink PATH" team.

"This event and the whole organization hold a special place in my heart. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009 and passed away in 2013," said Bruce Brooks, CEO of Zodiac's Global Pool Care division. "We are proud to support Komen San Diego, as it is the County's largest provider of free breast cancer treatments, services and support. We hope to save others from suffering my mother's fate."

On Sept. 28, 2015, the P.A.T.H. program also sponsored a free Susan G. Komen mobile mammogram evnt at Northgate Market in Vista, Calif. The decision to host the event at the Northgate Market location was based on Susan G. Komen's process and research to identify low-income neighborhoods where women typically do not have the time, money, or transportation means necessary for regular medical checkups. By making the free mammogram available at a popular, busy shopping center, Susan G. Komen and Zodiac gave women the opportunity to be tested for breast cancer when they might not have the ability otherwise. Health insurance was not required for women to participate, and a total of 25 women received free mammograms and breast exams during the event.

"On average, 10 percent of the exams provided by the Susan G. Komen San Diego mobile mammograms result in follow up appointments due to cancer detection," said Jill Rooks, director of information technologies, customer operations and head of the P.A.T.H. program. "That's what makes Komen San Diego so great to work with - the organization helps cancer patients through the whole process, not just the detection part. We are honored to support Komen San Diego with this event as we kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month."
