Amerigroup Fills Supply Cabinets for Georgia Title I Schools and Teachers

Amerigroup Community Care of Georgia is lengthening the back to school season for teachers, students and schools around Georgia through a new initiative called "Teacher Supply Closet." The program, which was created due to a shortage of supplies in schools, is a partnership driven by Amerigroup to deliver school supplies to teachers in 39 different Title I schools around the state. Additionally, each school will receive a $500 check from Amerigroup to assist with any miscellaneous school related expenses.

Amerigroup will kick-off the Teacher Supply Closet tour on October 6 with a delivery to the principal and teachers at Pointe South Elementary School. Supplies are separated into hygiene, office and classroom categories. Each school will receive: tissue boxes, cleaning wipes, hand sanitizer, paper, pencils/pens, dry erase markers, planning calendars, folders, lanyards scissors, notebooks and more. The Amerigroup Community Outreach Vehicle will make 39 stops and distribute more than $15,000 worth of school supplies before concluding in early November.

"As a former teacher, I understand how much money is spent on school supplies every year," said Fran Gary, plan president, Amerigroup Georgia. "We repack the backpaks for students and families during the school year, but Amerigroup's Teacher Supply Closet was created to provide schools and teachers with some help, so they can stay focused on the critical task of educating and caring for our kids."

During a one month tour around the state, the Teacher Supply Closet will make stops in the following elementary schools:

  • Atlanta: Pointe South (Riverdale), West Clayton, Edmonds (Forrest Park), Kilpatrick (Jonesboro), Randolph, Montclair, S.L. Lewis, Love T Nolan, H.E. Holmes (East Point), Fairington (Lithonia), Indian Creek (Clarkston), Lawrenceville Elementary, Ferguson (Duluth), Norcross Elementary, Meadowcreek (Norcross)
