Delta-Q selected as charging solutions supplier for electric motorcycle manufacturer Volta Motorbikes

BURNABY, British Columbia, Oct. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Delta-Q Technologies today announced that Volta Motorbikes has chosen the company as its battery charging solutions supplier for its BCN City and BCN Sport electric motorcycles.

Volta Motorbikes has chosen Delta-Q's QuiQ 1000 Industrial Battery Charger for its BCN City and BCN Sport electric motorcycles.

The new motorcycles were released for sale in October 2015 to the European market. Each motorcycle features Delta-Q's QuiQ 1000 Industrial Battery Charger on-board, paired with a 3 kWh lithium polymer (LiPo) battery pack. A full charge takes two hours on a standard 220V AC outlet, and the bikes have a 70-kilometre maximum range.

"When you're designing a top product, you should expect the best from all your suppliers. We want our customers to fall in love with our motorbikes, and we should do our best to make them happy. Following this premise, we select the best components and suppliers to work with. Delta-Q products gave us a technoogical and reliable solution, which fits with our targets," says Marc Barceló, General Manager of Volta Motorbikes.

"Volta's new motorcycles represent a fantastic option for electric transportation within cities. Electric motorcycles help the owner get around urban areas quietly and are positive for the environment. Our application engineers tell me that the bikes are fun to ride, lightweight and offer a lot of storage. Delta-Q is excited to work with Marc Barceló and his team to meet the growing demand for electric motorcycles across Europe," says Ken Fielding, Delta-Q's president and CEO.

Smartphone connectivity provides the motorcycle's owner with status information about location and charging status. Since the QuiQ Charger is located on-board, the bike can be charged on a standard electrical outlet.

Volta developed its own lithium-ion battery pack, vehicle control unit (VCU) and motor controller. More than 50 sensors ensure that the energy storage system is optimized at all times. The QuiQ Charger runs an algorithm custom-made for Volta, with the VCU able to enable or disable the charger at any time.
