NEW YORK, Sept. 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Dimension Data, the global ICT services and solutions provider, announced today that it is aiming to raise $300,000 for the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society as a result of its participation in the Bike MS: City to Shore Ride, which will take place on October 3-4, 2015. This year's Dimension Data team welcomes Dimension Data Global Brand Ambassador, John Maclean, the first wheelchair athlete to complete the Hawaiian Ironman and swim the English Channel. Maclean has been a wheelchair user since 1988 when he was hit by an eight ton truck. Having gone through extensive therapy over the last two years, Maclean is walking again with the aid of a leg brace, and will be participating in the ride on a conventional bicycle.

During this year's Bike MS: City to Shore Ride, more than 7,000 cyclists from all over the world will ride 180 miles round trip from Cherry Hill, N.J., to Ocean City, N.J., over two days. More than 300 employees, partners, clients, family members and friends will be part of Dimension Data's team. Last year, Dimension Data exceeded its fundraising goals, raising the second largest amount by an organization and further emphasizing its commitment to finding a cure for this debilitating illness.

"The Dimension Data riding team continues to grow every year, reflecting our company-wide commitment to serve our local communities and work together to make a difference," said Mark Slaga, CEO of Dimension Data Americas. "Our goal to raise $300,000 this year along with the addition of celebrated triathlete John Maclean, makes this year's event particularly special for our team."

As part of its Heads, Hearts and Hands program, the Dimension Data Group participates in more than 500 philanthropic initiatives annually and supports three main areas: social issues, environmental issues, and ethics and governance.

Across the Americas, Dimension Data has committed to support the National MS Society, City Year, Habitat for Humanity and the Ronald McDonald House. As a part of the organization's CSR program, employees receive eight hours of paid time off each year to volunteer for any charity they choose.

About the National Multiple Sclerosis Society
The Society mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. In 2014, the Society invested $50.6 million to advance more than 380 research projects around the world in order to stop MS in its tracks, restore what has been lost and end MS forever. Through its comprehensive nation-wide network of programs and services, it also helped more than one million people affected by MS connect to the people, information and resources needed to live their best lives.

About Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system, interrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 2.3 million people worldwide.
