Espial Introduces G4 STB Client for IPTV Operators

Transforming the viewing experience worldwide, Espial (News - Alert) today announced commercial availability of the RDK-based Espial G4 STB Client for IPTV operators such as Telcos, as well as end-to-end systems integration services for IPTV (News - Alert) operators. Launched earlier this year for cable and hybrid networks, this new iteration of G4 is enhanced to enable IPTV network operators create an immersive viewing experience which blends advanced TV capabilities with OTT apps, while gaining full benefits of the RDK (Reference Design Kit) and HTML5 environments.

The enhanced G4 STB Client for IP operators and Telcos includes full support for IP Multicast and Unicast of Live TV, including IGMP, HLS, DASH, Local and Network DVR, VOD, TimeshiftTV and 4K UHD solutions. Espial has also integrated G4 with leading IP security solutions, including Verimatrix, Microsoft PlayReady, and Widevine (News - Alert). Espial offers integration with the latest OTT services, including YouTube 4K with VP9 and Widevine. G4 supports the latest version of RDK 2.1, enabling IPTV operators to participate, collaborate and fully leverage the latest set-top platforms.

"Many Telcos are saddled with closed, first-gen IPTV systems that are vendor-dependent and difficult to innovate on. To combat escalating competition, network operators need to deliver an immersive viewing experience which blends advanced TV, OTT and operator-specific services," said Jaison Dolvane, Espial CEO. "Coupled with RDK, Espial's G4 Client enables IPTV operators to create and deliver a next-gen experience that will surprise and delight their subscribers."

"We are excited to be working with Espial to ring the value of RDK to IPTV operators" said Steve Oetegen, President, Verimatrix (News - Alert). "The combination of our RDK solution to provide application revenue security with Espial's UX and application leadership is a true win for IPTV operators. It allows them to work with two leading RDK suppliers to deliver a compelling, secure user experience with rapid time to market for their key video applications including Live TV, VOD, DVR and others."

"Orange's (News - Alert) IP video service launched successfully in France last month," said Martin Conan, OTT Platform Director of Orange. "While la clĂ© TV / Orange TV Stick uses a subset of the G4 solution, Espial's software enabled us to leverage HTML5 and create an IP-video user experience where Orange customers can efficiently navigate live TV, secure premium content, and access internet-based consumer services."

Using G4, network operators can blend advanced TV functionality, including linear and on-demand content, with Internet-based video and apps into one consistent experience with seamless transition and their branded look and feel. Subscribers can efficiently navigate and discover content, as G4 is designed to integrate third-party recommendation engines. Service providers customize and enhance the user experience at 'Web-speed', thanks to G4's unique architecture and use of HTML5. Leveraging Espial's expertise in RDK and Smart-TV technologies, G4 delivers a fast, fluid experience on virtually any platform.

Espial's G4 Client for IP network operators will be on display at IBC2015, September 11-15, in Amsterdam at the Espial stand (Hall 5 B.25).
