N-Dimension Introduces N-Sentinel Continuous Vulnerability Assessment for Utilities

N-Dimension, a market leading Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) with innovative cybersecurity offerings that protect smart energy networks from cyber threats, today announced introduction of N-Sentinel Vulnerability Assessment. This new service offers continuous vulnerability assessment of end point devices on utility networks, detecting and alerting on cybersecurity risks and delivering reports and expert guidance on remediation. Unlike the common approach many utilities use today of performing vulnerability assessments once or twice a year and gaining insight into cyber threats on end points for a specific point in time, N-Sentinel Vulnerability Assessment operates continuously. With the increasing number of cyber incidents and types of threats utilities are encountering on a regular basis, periodic vulnerability assessments are no longer adequate. Ongoing vigilance is essential in order to identify threats in a timely manner so potential damage can be reduced or averted.

This new managed service offered by N-Dimension compliments to company's N-Sentinel Monitoring service launched earlier this year. N-Sentinel Monitoring features continuous cybersecurity monitoring of network traffic. It includes alerts, threat analysis, reports and access to trusted cybersecurity experts to guide customers in improving their security posture. Together with N-Sentinel Vulnerability Assessment, utilities gain continuous visibility into cyber risks and how to increase their defenses.

N-Sentinel Vulnerability Assessment detects cyber threats (including malware/Trojans, exploits attempts, policy violations, malicious files, rogue devices and outdated end point software and operating system vulnerabilities) on a wide range of network-connected end point devices such as servers, industrial control systems, desktops/laptops, smart phones and more. Since cyber threats can be introduced at any time, periodic vulnerability assessments are inadequae to ensure endpoint protection. For example, a thumb drive can be inserted into a computer downloading a virus or other malicious code; users receive email messages that contain malicious URLs or attachments that can provide a hacker with access to the utility network, including industry control systems and confidential data.

Through its many years of experience delivering classical vulnerability assessment services and more recently through insights from customers using N-Sentinel Monitoring, N-Dimension learned that assessments done periodically - typically annually or bi-annually, leave utilities vulnerability to cyber threats. It is only through continuous vigilance that utilities can best ensure protection of end points from cyber risks.

"N-Dimension Vulnerability Assessment service offers cyber risk protection of end point devices which has been a serious gap as utilities have modernized and placed more reliance on the smart grid and connectivity of critical infrastructure systems to the Internet" said Tom Ayers, CEO, N-Dimension. "We have seen first hand the ingenious ways in which hackers are attempting to gain access and in some cases, gaining access to utility systems, data and assets. Its important to become aware of threats as early as possible to avoid or minimize damages."
