Countdown is on to Nominate a Caregiver to Win $10,000

Do you know a caregiver who deserves $10,000? Do you know an accommodating employer or a great community? A unique Canadian campaign wants to hear from you.

Canada Cares (www.canadacares.org) awards campaign is being organized to recognize family, friend and professional caregivers. Canadian residents are encouraged to nominate an exceptional family member, friend or professional caregiver for a prestigious award, and explain what the caregiver would do with a $10,000 prize.

"It's no secret that caregiving effects families, workplaces and personal health," said Caroline Tapp-McDougall, Chair of Canada Cares, citing studies that show a surge in the number of Canadian caregivers, with one in four adults currently caring for a loved one. "Our message to caregivers of all walks of life is that we appreciate, support and thank you for your tireless commitment."

Ten awards will be presented nationally, recognizing five outstanding family/friend and five outstanding professional caregivers, covering four regions - Western, Central, Atlantic and Northern Canada. An additional recipient will be selected to win the $10,000 Canada Cares One Wish Award, sponsored by CBI Health Group.

Recognizing that caregivers requir the support of those around them, Canada Cares is also seeking public nominations for communities and employers that go above and beyond to help caregivers and their families. The Caregiver-Friendly Workplace Award, in partnership with the Canadian Abilities Foundation, and the Caring Communities Award, in partnership with Caregiver Solutions magazine, will be presented to one community and one business or organization nationally.

Awards will be presented in Ottawa in November at the Canadian Home Care Association.

Launched in 2013, the annual Canada Cares awards program has generated extensive, positive public response and coast-to-coast story sharing since its inception. Award winners are selected by a national committee of consumers and professional organizations, based on such criteria as caregiver strength, commitment to care, community involvement and compassion. The Canada Cares One Wish Award will be evaluated on the creativity of the request and the level of need. The Caregiver-Friendly Workplace and Caring Communities Awards will be assessed based on celebration, innovation, accommodation and excellence.

Nominations - which can be submitted online, by mail or by video - will be accepted until September 18, with winners announced in November. For details on how to nominate a caregiver, visit www.canadacares.org.
