Students at Insight School of Kansas Stay Home to Start School Year

OLATHE, Kan., Aug. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- For students enrolled in Insight School of Kansas (ISKS), a public online school serving students in grades 7-12 and adult learners interested in completing requirements for their high school diploma, going back to school on August 18 might mean settling down at the computer in the kitchen or living room rather than figuring out a bus route or organizing their locker. But for many of these students, a distraction-free environment is just what they need to get back on track academically.

"We know that academic goals may be different for every student," says Cassie Barton, head of school at Insight School of Kansas. "We offer a fresh start and an individualized program without distractions or peer pressure. Our high quality teachers, counselors and Learning Coaches help provide extra support for students that need it."

ISKS gives students the opportunity to learn both core subject areas and electives from state-certified, highly qualified teachers using the award-winning curriculum and tools provided by K¹². Support staff, including advisors, counselors, and a social worker, provide addiional social and emotional support through the use of a teen parenting class and support groups. These services provide a unique environment for students to thrive. As an accredited and tuition-free school, Insight School of Kansas is available to students from across the state at no cost and graduates receive a high-school diploma.

ISKS also offers an innovative Adult Learner program that gives adults the chance to complete the requirements for a high school diploma, no matter how long ago or at what point they left school. The ISKS Adult Learner program offers a block schedule that allows adult students more time to focus on their courses and more flexibility throughout the school year.

ISKS is still accepting students in both the Adult Learner program and in grades 7-12 for this fall.  Interested families are invited to attend online information sessions or one of the many in-person events being held in their community throughout the month. Upcoming events include:

  • Topeka Information Session: August 19, 6:30-7:30 PM at Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, Hughes Room 205
  • Wichita Family Outing: August 22, 1-4 PM at Sedgwick County Zoo, 5555 Zoo Blvd.
