Information Privacy Professionals Credentials from the IAPP Receive ANSI Accreditation

The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), the world's largest and most comprehensive global information privacy community and resource, today announced the internationally recognized gold standard accreditation of its credentials for information privacy professionals including Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US), Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E), Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), and Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT) by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

"With corporations and businesses around the world calling for professionals to factor data privacy into their products and services, the need for highly trained privacy pros has never been stronger," said the IAPP's President and CEO, J. Trevor Hughes (News - Alert), CIPP. "The accreditation of our credentials by ANSI is an important step in our mission to continually add value to the knowledge and skills we offer these professionals. It provides them with a new level of recognition and professionalism that helps to further the privacy profession as a whole."

Created in 2004 by the IAPP, the CIPP was the first professional certification ever offered for information privacy professionals. Since its creation, it has become the preeminent credential in the field, and is the IAPP's single largest educational program with several thousand certified professionals working in the field today. Those who earn a CIPP credential gain foundational understanding of both broad and global concepts of privacy and data protection la and practice.

The CIPM was first offered in 2013 and is the first and only certification designed for leaders in privacy program management. This designation ensures privacy program managers have the skills and knowledge needed to establish, maintain and manage a privacy program across all stages of its lifecycle.

The CIPT was launched in 2014 and is also the first and only certification designed for IT, security, or engineering privacy professionals who are interested in learning how to build their organization's privacy structures from the ground up.

According to IAPP's 2015 Privacy Professionals Salary Survey the single most predictive indicator for salary and achievement is professional certification. "With ANSI accreditation, IAPP's certification program has reached a level of maturity that reflects that of the organization and of the privacy profession more generally. This is an important external validation of the privacy profession and benefits IAPP members everywhere," said Ben Hayes, CIPM, CIPP/C, CIPP/E, CIPP/G, CIPP/US, CIPT, a member of the IAPP Certification Advisory Board.

Privacy and IT professionals interested in obtaining a CIPM, CIPP/E, CIPP/US or CIPT certification can call the IAPP at 800.266.6501 or visit their website at https://privacyassociation.org/certify/.

ANSI is a non-profit organization that promotes and facilitates voluntary consensus standards and conformity assessment systems. ANSI's portfolio of accreditation services includes programs for all types of certification and verification bodies. The Institute is the official U.S. representative to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and, via the U.S. National Committee, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC (News - Alert)), and is a U.S. representative to the International Accreditation Forum (IAF).

Accreditation by ANSI signifies that IAPP's procedures meet ANSI/ISO/IEC 17024General Requirements for Bodies Operating Certification Systems of Persons. By adhering to a rigorous internationally recognized accreditation process, ANSI ensures that its accreditation work conforms to the highest accreditation standard and represents the best practices in the field. ANSI's personnel certification accreditation program was the first such program in the United States to fulfill the requirements of ISO/IEC 17011Conformity assessment - General requirements for accreditation bodies accrediting conformity assessment bodies, which represents the global benchmark for accreditation body practice. ANSI is currently the only personnel certification accreditation body in the United States to meet nationally accepted practices for accreditation bodies. Accordingly, ANSI's accreditation program is recognized as a leader in personnel credentialing.
