BBVA Compass taps Caleb Merriman as its chief security officer


BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Aug. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- BBVA Compass announced today that information security veteran Caleb Merriman has been named its new chief security officer.

Data security is a top priority for BBVA Compass, and Merriman has an extensive background in information risk management, security architecture, business continuity and systems disaster recovery. He will oversee the bank's information technology security, online fraud investigations, information technology risk governance, physical security, loss prevention and investigation teams, and will report to BBVA Compass Chief Information Officer Gabriel Sanchez Iniesta.

"Caleb's skills and experience complement our continued efforts to protect the confidentiality and integrity of our clients' information," Sanchez Iniesta said. "He is a great addition to our Technology and Support Services leadership team."

Merriman joins the bank from BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, where he served as the chief information security officer since 2012, responsible for the company's security programs. He has more than 20 years of experience, previously holding senior information security positions in a broad range of industries, such as health insurance, retail, financial services and medical technology. He will be based in Birmingham.

Merriman earne a bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Florida and earned a master's degree in information systems from the University of Phoenix.
