Wi-SUN Alliance Collaborates with India Smart Grid Forum to Advance Connectivity in Smart Utility Networks


MORGAN HILL, Calif., Aug. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Wi-SUN Alliance today announced a strategic relationship with the India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF), a public private partnership initiative of Ministry of Power, Govt. of India, created to accelerate the development of smart grid technologies in the Indian power sector.  The two organizations will work together to promote smart grid technologies in an efficient, cost-effective, innovative and scalable manner utilizing interoperable solutions based on standards.

According to Reji Kumar Pillai, ISGF President and CEO, "This agreement with the Wi-SUN Alliance will help us accelerate the deployment of physical communications' infrastructure that is standards-based, scalable, intelligent and interoperable for building smart grids and smart cities in India/span>.



Under the agreement, Wi-SUN and ISGF will work together on compliance and interoperability programs as well as promote the benefits of certified, interoperable products to the utility industry, government and regulators. Both parties may also collaborate on key industry events, activities and publications that will promote the growth of the smart grid.

ISGF was set up in 2010 to provide a mechanism through which academia, industry, utilities and other stakeholders could participate in the development of smart grid systems in India and provide relevant inputs to the government's decision-making. ISGF has over 200 members covering Ministries, Government Institutions, Regulators, Utilities, Industry, Non-Profit Organizations, Academia and Research entities and Students from renowned institutions. Mandate of ISGF is to assist government on policies and programs for promotion of Smart Grids in India, work with national and international agencies in standards development and to help utilities, regulators and the Industry in technology selection, training and capacity building.
