SOASTA Supports Women to Be Family First and Still Be Successful

SOASTA (News - Alert), the leader in performance analytics, has recently welcomed to its team Tammy Everts, Senior Researcher and Evangelist. Everts, who comes to SOASTA with a strong background in editing and publishing, has already seen SOASTA's blog quadruple in traffic since coming on board. She views herself as more of a "problem evangelist than a product evangelist," researching and then writing about the impact of performance on users and user behavior, and how this behavior affects companies.

"Users care about performance and so do companies - even if they don't realize it," said Everts. "My job is explaining this in ways that everybody can understand."

The mother of two boys, 7 and 10, whom she describes as "opposite twins - one calm and smart, the other physical, dynamic and funny," Everts works on a flexible schedule and from her home, deep in the heart of British Columbia. Everts applauds SOASTA for their commitment to work-life balance and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to have a job that engages her without requiring her to sacrifice her home life.

"Women can have all the things: a husband, kids, and work you love," said Everts. "But it requires having an employer who understands that they get the most out of employees who feel fulfilled. The people operating SOASTA at the executive level are talented, committed professionals, but they also have families. They're not just paying lip service to individuals having work-life balance, they actually believe it. It's asy to get trapped into the feeling of always needing to be 'on' and if you don't have that support, you feel guilty taking advantage of flex time. But when you feel like the company is actually behind you, it's great."

Everts, who grew up on a dairy farm and acquired two degrees in literature, felt an early draw to the internet in the nineties. Over the course of a publishing career that spanned almost two decades, she saw her writing become increasingly more technical as her fascination with technology and internet-based publishing platforms continued to grow. She has worked in the performance space for six years and joins SOASTA after a six-year tenure in front-end optimization at the Vancouver-based startup Strangeloop, which was acquired by Radware (News - Alert) two years ago. Since taking over the SOASTA blog - The Performance Beacon [performancebeacon.com] - in April, Everts has seen readership quadruple - an incredible achievement, given the rather niche and technical nature of the material the blog covers.

"SOASTA understands the importance of implementing a workplace in which work-life balance is prized," said Ann Sung Ruckstuhl, Chief Marketing Officer, SOASTA. "Having a good work-life balance helps women reach their full career potential, and that brings an incredible amount of value to the work force. As a woman working in the tech field, I can tell you firsthand how valuable it is to have this balance."
