PCs for People Distributes Its 40,000th Donated Computer to Low-Income Individuals and Families

SAINT PAUL, Minn., July 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- PCs for People has been making a measurable impact in the lives of low-income families, individuals, children, and those with disabilities by refurbishing and distributing retired and end-of-life computers since 1998. PCs for People recently distributed their 40,000th computer, helping communities throughout the Upper Midwest. Thousands of families have also been subscribed to low cost wireless Internet and millions of pounds of electronics have been responsibly recycled.

"This is a significant milestone in that each computer distributed actually impacts 3.5 individuals in the typical household," says Ron Tracy, Marketing and Sales Manager at PCs for People. "Men and women are able to prepare themselves for meaningful employment, while children are able to improve their performance in school. Collectively, more than 125,000 individuals have been served."

A digital divide exists among low-income populations in which economic and social inequality limit access to, use of, or knowledge of information and communication technologies. Bridging the digital divide opens the door for digital inclusion. This access impacts both ndividuals and the community as a whole. The technology itself is the tool. A digitally inclusive community is important to economic and workforce development, civic participation, education, healthcare, and public safety.

Working with over 300 companies, government organizations, and nonprofits, PCs for People services include certified data sanitation, free asset collection, low-cost wireless Internet connection, and low-cost computer repair. Over 80% of computers collected are refurbished and distributed and over 3 million pounds of unusable electronics have been recycled. Companies, governmental organizations, and nonprofits interested in partnering with PCs for People to bridge the digital divide are encouraged to email [email protected] or call 651-354-2552.
