Telcel Aldea Digital -- Infinitum 2015 Is Underway

MEXICO CITY, July 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- After last year's record-setting attendance at what became the largest digital inclusion event in history, the Carlos Slim Foundation is looking forward to another successful Telcel Aldea Digital -- Infinitum in 2015. From July 10th-26th, thousands of attendees of every age, gender, background, and region of the country will gather in the Zocalo of Mexico City. For those unable to make the trip in person, the event will also be streamed online.

"Aldea Digital -- Infinitum will once again demonstrate our commitment to digital inclusion throughout Mexico," Carlos Slim Domit said. "Last year we saw more than 35,000 participants use a computer for the very first time, some of whom were up to 97 years old. We believe that getting everyone online, no matter who they are or where they come from, is crucial for the development of human capital, and we anticipate another big step forward in 2015."

This year's attendees will be able to obtain free high-speed broadband access, and the educational materials, skills training, and many other essential benefits this technology can bring to every aspect of their careers and lives.

For example, the event will once again introduce thousands of people to ajob training platform called "Capacitate para el Empleo"-- offering online courses in 40 different occupations and trades, including everything from masonry, electrical work and carpentry to areas in computer and information technology.

Attendees will also be trained in the use of the ClickiSalud application, a program created by the Carlos Slim Foundation that teaches individuals and families how to monitor various indicators of their health for certain chronic conditions like hypertension, obesity and diabetes.

As always, the event will also showcase the power of broadband access to bring quality education to more people than ever before. This year's attendees will experience new courses from the Khan Academy, which two years ago partnered with the Carlos Slim Foundation to translate its courses into Spanish -- from early childhood education all the way up to advanced graduate-level studies.

This year's lineup of world-class speakers will address a wide range of topics relevant to the technology industry, both in Mexico and around the world. Keynotes will include remarks from Dr. Michio Kaku discussing the physics of the future. Walter Bender will talk about his work providing laptops to children around the planet. Dr. Eric Lander of MIT will discuss the impact of the human genome on everyday lives. Finally, Steve Wozniak will participate in a dialogue and Q&A session.

The full lineup and schedule is available here.
