AECOM Implements PrecyseTech to Improve Asset Utilization, Worker Safety and Equipment Maintenance

PrecyseTech, a leading pioneer of wireless Remote Entity Awareness and Control (REAC) solutions for managing high-value physical assets and personnel, announced today the implementation of its REAC solution by AECOM, a 19 billion dollar engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company. For this project, AECOM needed a solution to identify, locate and monitor vital engine statistics for more than 330 vehicles, pieces of heavy equipment and vessels at the Olmsted Dam construction site, a state-of-the-art multi-billion dollar project which is one of the largest civil works projects undertaken by the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).

Steve Frazier, director of equipment operations for AECOM, lists improved asset utilization, equipment maintenance and worker safety among the benefits of the PrecyseTech REAC solution. PrecyseTech's wireless M2M and IoT capabilities provide timely and more accurate information than via manual readings. For example, the PrecyseTech solution automates engine runtime and low fuel monitoring across a broad variety of vehicles, vessels and equipment. Automating the collection of this information minimizes the need for workers to manually interact with these assets thus reducing the risk of personal injury such as slips, trips and falls. Additionally, PrecyseTech's Vehicle Agents monitor for and report a vessel's identity and location whenever a sudden impact occurs such as a boat abruptly colliding with a pier or barge. Collectively, this enhanced site-wide situational awareness leads to improved asset utilization, equipment maintenance and worker safety.

As M2M solutions and IoT continue to gain traction, companies experience more operational efficiencies. The PrecyseTech IoT solution, using patented technologies combining assisted GPS (A-GPS) and active radio frequency identification (Actve RFID) communications in a single Smart Agent, provides REAC capabilities resulting in real-time visibility and seamless transition between indoor and outdoor areas. For this AECOM project, the PrecyseTech REAC solution goes beyond RTLS to enable the identification, location and monitoring of high-value assets including vital engine statistics and abrupt physical impacts. The variety of vessels, vehicles and equipment benefiting from the PrecyseTech solution includes trucks, boats, barges, generators, cranes, bulldozers, forklifts, welding units, winches and pressure washers. In some cases, a single PrecyseTech Vehicle Agent is monitoring multiple engines simultaneously.

Prior to the PrecyseTech solution, AECOM relied on manual processes to locate high-value assets and monitor engine statistics. The PrecyseTech REAC solution simplifies the process of asset management providing real-time actionable information, chiefly asset location and engine statistics, to field managers and maintenance personnel. In addition, with PrecyseTech's industry-leading wireless range (1.5 miles DLS), the large-scale construction site only installed 3 PrecyseTech Bridge Ports to provide solution coverage on water and land.

"This AECOM project further expands the breadth of industries and applications for which PrecyseTech's REAC solution provides meaningful benefits. Whether a client is looking to use this big data to improve asset utilization and equipment maintenance, remotely monitor and wirelessly control physical assets, improve worker safety and security or enhance workforce management, PrecyseTech's suite of REAC solutions provides superior situational awareness and asset management automation via a cost-effective, real-time solution with minimal infrastructure requirements," noted Drew Bolton, vice president of global operations for PrecyseTech.
