U.S. Department of Energy Holds First Annual Sustainable Transportation Day with New West Technologies SupportOn June 22nd, the U.S. Department of Energy held the first-ever Sustainable Transportation Day to publicly showcase successful technologies resulting from its ongoing investments in sustainable transportation research, development, and deployment efforts. The exhibits on display were the result of projects out of the Energy Department's three sustainable transportation offices located within the larger Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) including Bioenergy, Vehicle, and Fuel Cell Technologies. The Green Racing Simulator, a public outreach and education tool, was especially popular with the public as many waited for their chance to virtually compete for the Green Racing Cup while driving a hybrid Corvette running on cellulosic ethanol. Attendees also got a glimpse of the Freightliner SuperTruck by Daimler, a class 8 tractor trailer that has achieved a remarkable 12.2 miles per gallon fuel economy in real-world conditions. "Events like Sustainable Transportation Day are a great way to educate and engage the public about alternative fuels and advanced vehicle technologies," said Natalie Committee, New West Senior Communications Specialist.
