New West staff worked with stakeholders to showcase special exhibits outside of the Energy Department's headquarters in Washington, D.C. such as the Freightliner SuperTruck, the 3D-printed Shelby Cobra, the Green Racing Simulator and some of the world's first commercial fuel cell and electric vehicles. The exhibits on display were the result of projects out of the Energy Department's three sustainable transportation offices located within the larger Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) including Bioenergy, Vehicle, and Fuel Cell Technologies.

The Green Racing Simulator, a public outreach and education tool, was especially popular with the public as many waited for their chance to virtually compete for the Green Racing Cup while driving a hybrid Corvette running on cellulosic ethanol. Attendees also got a glimpse of the Freightliner SuperTruck by Daimler, a class 8 tractor trailer that has achieved a remarkable 12.2 miles per gallon fuel economy in real-world conditions.

"Events like Sustainable Transportation Day are a great way to educate and engage the public about alternative fuels and advanced vehicle technologies," said Natalie Committee, New West Senior Communications Specialist. "We're pleased that New West staff can continue to play a pivotal role in supporting the Energy Department's efforts to advance sustainable transportation."

Other New West staff supporting the event were Michelle Avillanoza, Peter Heywood, Jake Mello, Julie Perez, and Thomas Schmitt.

New West and its teaming partner Allegheny Science & Technology (AST) are poised to continue their roles in actively supporting EERE's programs and initiatives for advanced vehicle technologies under the terms of the new three-year Mission Oriented Technical Support (MOTS) contract including public events such as future Sustainable Transportation Days.
