"Jennie brings to SCAN an extraordinary background in senior care, policy and service," said SCAN Board Chair Ryan Trimble (News - Alert). "Her wealth of corporate governance experience and personal commitment to older adults will help ensure that SCAN not only remains an innovative leader in providing access to the healthcare services seniors need but that we continue to be a strong, national advocate for senior health and independence."

In addition to her work with the American Geriatrics Society and AARP, Hansen served nearly 25 years with On Lok Inc., a nonprofit family of organizations providing comprehensive medical and community-based services for frail older people in Sa Francisco. Under her leadership On Lok's groundbreaking service delivery and global financing model became the prototype for the 1997 federal law that incorporated the Program of All-Inclusive Care to the Elderly (PACE) into the Medicare and Medicaid programs.

In 2011 Hansen completed a six-year term as a federal commissioner of the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission. She currently serves on numerous boards including the SCAN Foundation and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement as well as on the American Hospital Association Equity of Care Committee. Since 2012 she has been appointed to the national Veteran's Health Administration Advisory Committee on Gerontology and Geriatrics and the Department of HHS' National Institutes of Health-National Advisory Council on Aging. In 2015 she began her board service with the not-for-profit, faith-based Dignity Health System, which encompasses 39 hospitals and 250 other sites/programs of care.

"Medicare today represents the fastest-growing segment of the American population, and that makes ensuring that older adults receive the best care possible - care that addresses their personal quality of life goals - more critical than ever," said Hansen. "SCAN has always demonstrated great skill at complex care management for seniors; and I'm looking forward to helping the organization continue to look for new strategies, programs and partnerships that will allow it to best serve this growing and diverse population."

Hansen, a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, has received numerous awards over the years in recognition of her commitment to senior health. These have included the 2002 Gerontological Society of America Maxwell Pollack Award for Productive Aging; an honorary doctorate from Boston College in 2008; a 2010 Innovator in Health Award from the New England Healthcare Institute; the 2011 Picker Award for Excellence in the Advancement of Patient-Centered Care in Long-Term Care, and the 2015 American Society on Aging's Hall of Fame Award.

SCAN Health Plan is one of the nation's largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage plans currently serving nearly 170,000 members in California and Arizona. For more information on SCAN, visit scanhealthplan.com or facebook.com/scanhealthplan.
