DLDsummer 2015: Data-Based Medicine, Fitness Apps, the Health Platforms of the Future: The First DLDsummer Conference Focused on the Link Between Technology, Health and Lifestyle

MUNICH, June 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --

How will digitalisation shape our health, medicine, fitness, etc. in the future? The first DLDsummer conference - held on 22-23 June in Munich's Allianz Auditorium - provided some answers. 500 participants took up DLD founder Steffi Czerny's invitation to Burda's new summer conference. 50 speakers - including prominent scientists, digital pioneers and athletes - tackled trends such as the Internet of Things and the mobility of the future alongside topics at the interface between technology, lifestyle and health. "At every DLD conference, we discuss topics that affect us all. Digitalisation is having a major influence on medicine and healthcare. I am therefore delighted to welcome visionaries whose innovations and products will have a crucial impact on the market of the future," said Steffi Czerny.

From big data in medicine to apps that facilitate digital communication between doctors and patients, international experts shed light on a range of topics. Controversial physician David Agus, whose book "The End of Illness" has sold 1.5 million copies worldwide, talked to DLD chairman Yossi Vardi and explained how people can minimise their risk of illness. The oncologist believes that, alongside a healthy lifestyle, collecting big data for every single patient is the most important factor to detect and treat disease at an earlier stage. Former skier Maria Höfl-Riesch also took to the DLD stage to explain how she optimised her training by using wearables to collect physiological data. "Customised, data-based training is the key to success," she stated.

Mainz-based doctor Ugur Sahin, who researches individual cancer vaccinations, reported on his immunotherapy, which aims to activate the body's own defences against cancer. Stem cell researcher Eckhard Alt demonstrated how old-age diseases and cancer could be treated with a patient's own cells in future. Stem cell therapy against heart failure, liver damage and joint wear is not yet in clinical use. According to Alt, however, it is one of the best ways to fight these conditions.

Other speakers included Tony Doulas from BMW, Kerstin Günther (Telekom), Jean-Claude Biver, chairman of Hublot, the luxury watchmaker, smart home investor Lars Hinrichs, Allianz COO Christof Mascher, Benjamin Joffe (HAX), an expert on the Internet of Things, and film director Jason Wishnow. Musicians Beatie Wolfe (UK) and Pollyester (Munich) and illusionist Marco Tempest provided entertainment on the DLD stage.
