Dr. Schwartz advises clients on litigation matters involving securities, intellectual property, and antitrust disputes, and he is an experienced expert witness. Dr. Schwartz has undertaken many analyses arising out of allegations of illegal price discrimination, on both liability and damages questions. In addition, he has extensive experience in Lanham Act matters, and ha estimated damages in both trademark infringement and false advertising cases. He also has testified in numerous intellectual property matters on the measurement of damages in patent infringement cases as well as the valuation of IP assets, portfolios, and licenses. Additionally, Dr. Schwartz has testified in federal and state courts, before the US International Trade Commission, in the US Tax Court, and in arbitration proceedings. He also has performed many antitrust analyses in connection with private antitrust litigation and merger investigations, with a particular focus on analyzing the economics of vertical relationships. He has worked across industries that include consumer goods, high-tech, computer software, and manufacturing. Dr. Schwartz is regularly published, authoring more than a dozen articles in economics journals concerning mergers, the persistence of monopoly profits, and arbitrator bias. He also has written for the Practising Law Institute and American Bar Association publications and economic journals. Prior to joining CRA, Dr. Schwartz was a managing director at Alvarez & Marsal in its Global Forensics, Disputes and Investigations Practice, and a consultant with NERA Economic Consulting. His previous experience also includes as an Assistant Professor of Economics at Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) and as an antitrust economist in the Bureau of Economics at the Federal Trade Commission. Dr. Schwartz holds PhD and MA degrees in Economics from the University of Maryland and a BA degree in Economics from Wesleyan University (CT).
