Localeur Launches Android App; Now Available in 16 Cities

AUSTIN, Texas, June 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Localeur, where locals go to access and share recommendations on the best local places to eat, drink and play, today debuted its first-ever native Android app. The app is now available for free download on Google Play. Also, Localeur announced it has grown its community of locals to 16 total cities by adding San Antonio and San Diego to its network.

"Android is a leading platform for smartphone owners, and we are extremely excited to launch Localeur for download on Google Play," said co-founder and CEO Joah Spearman. "As we expand to both the iOS and Android platform, we also continue to expand geographically. Adding San Antonio and San Diego places two more of America's busiest travel destinations in our fast-growing community of locals."

Android users can now access local recommendations in Atlanta, Astin, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York City, Portland, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington, D.C. Combined, Localeur offers access to more than 6,000 (and growing by hundreds each month) recommendations on places to eat, drink and play written exclusively by locals in these 16 major cities.

Localeur has now surpassed half a million users and said it has already grown its monthly user base nearly 600 percent since the end of 2014. Along with viewing recommendations already on Localeur, users can verify their local status via Facebook and gain real influence by sharing new recommendations on their favorite local places to eat, drink and play.

Localeur, which initially launched in Austin at SXSW 2013, was named that year's best new startup by Austin Monthly, and more recently was named one of the top travel apps in 2015 by "The Today Show", Forbes, TIME, BET, Black Enterprise, Examiner, MSN, MTV, Men's Journal, and others.

To date, Localeur has raised $1.3 million from angel investors including Heather Brunner, CEO of WP Engine, Mike Murphy, former chief revenue officer for Facebook, Tom Arrix, former North American ad chief for Facebook, Blake Chandlee, VP of Global Partnerships for Facebook, and Steve Pamon, head of sports and entertainment marketing for JPMorganChase, among others.
