C3 Energy Releases Internet of Energy Platform

C3 Energy today introduced the general availability of C3 (News - Alert) CyberPhysix™, a comprehensive design, development, provisioning, and operating platform for deploying industrial-scale cyber physical applications for the energy industry. C3 CyberPhysix enables the rapid deployment of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS (News - Alert)) applications that integrate and process highly dynamic petascale data sets, gigascale sensor networks, and enterprise and extraprise information system integrations. The platform advances rigorous predictive analytics, data exploration, machine learning, and complex data visualization with responsive design. C3 CyberPhysix is specifically tailored for use in utility and oil and gas markets.

C3 CyberPhysix is in production use as the IoT operating platform at enterprise scale at 20 energy companies in the United States and Europe. The C3 CyberPhysix platform integrates production data from hundreds of independent data sources and tens of millions of sensors aggregated using highly scalable elastic computation and storage architectures, providing processing capabilities that exceed 1.5 million transactions per second.

C3 CyberPhysix provides a complete and unified set of services for energy companies to build, deploy, and operate industrial-scale, cyber-physical applications. These services include APIs, application logic, analytics, data services, deployment, integration, machine learning, monitoring and management, workflow, and user interfaces. Developers can deliver applications that are ready for immediate use and scale to meet the data processing and machine learning requirements across the enterprise.

C3 CyberPhysix includes C3 Tools&trde;, an integrated family of development tools for developers, data scientists, and project managers. C3 Tools separates and abstracts the logical object model, application user interface, analytic metrics, machine learning algorithms, and programming logic from the physical data streams, persistent data stores, and individual sensor behaviors, streamlining application development to bring IoT solutions to market quickly and reliably.

C3 Tools enables analysts and developers to instantiate and extend C3 CyberPhysix data and canonical object models, design metrics, develop streaming and iterative analytics, launch MapReduce jobs, configure and extend existing applications, and develop new applications.

"As the energy industry transforms through the convergence of intelligent machines and big data, the leading energy companies are demanding a solution that leverages such data in order to dramatically improve performance, lower operating costs, and increase reliability. IoT solutions such as C3 CyberPhysix are necessary to enable decision makers, developers, and data scientists to realize the promise of smart, connected devices across the energy landscape," said Dr. Richard Soley, executive director of the Industrial Internet Consortium.

According to recent IDC (News - Alert) research, IoT spending is expected to reach $3 billion by 2020.1 Gartner Group estimates that by 2020 IoT spending for utilities will be $20 billion per year, and $66 billion per year for oil and gas.2

C3 CyberPhysix is commonly used to develop IoT application solutions for the utility and oil and gas markets including smart cities, predictive maintenance, energy theft prevention, load forecasting, Volt/VAR, capital asset allocation and planning, customer segmentation and targeting, customer insight, behavioral energy efficiency programs, generation analytics, refinery optimization, and well completion analytics.
