WeatherBug and KPHO CBS 5 in Phoenix Partner to Deliver Live, Neighborhood-Level Weather Updates from the World's Largest Weather Network

Phoenix viewers can stay updated with the latest real-time, local weather conditions from sensors right in their own neighborhoods, thanks to a partnership with KPHO CBS 5 and WeatherBug, the operator of the world's largest weather sensor network.

Viewers in the Phoenix area are already familiar with WeatherBug (News - Alert), thanks to a partnership with 3TV (KTVK) that began in 2003. And now CBS 5 can also tap into WeatherBug to help Phoenix-area viewers plan their day and stay prepared. The WeatherBug Weather Network is a growing network of thousands of weather sensors and cameras placed at K-12 schools and universities, golf courses, stadiums, parks and other locations nationwide right where people live, work and play.

In the Phoenix area, WeatherBug Weather Stations are located at the Arizona Science Center, the Phoenix Children's Hospital, Wrigley Mansion, and area schools that include Pendergast Elementary School, Desert Sands Middle School, Arizona State University, and more.

"The Phoenix area is blessed with mild winters and more sun than any other major metro area in the country," says Chris Dunn, CBS 5 Meteorologist. "Yet summer brings temperatures that can easily soar into the triple digits and a monsoon season that includes severe thunderstorms, high winds and downpours that can lead to dangerous flash floods. That's why we're teaming up with WeatherBug -- to provide our viewes with live, hyper-local weather from the WeatherBug Network to help everyone plan and stay safer all year long."

"We're extremely pleased to be partnering with CBS 5 to deliver real-time local weather conditions and live camera views from the greater Phoenix area," says Frank McCathran, Director of Enterprise Solutions, WeatherBug. While many other providers can tell you the temperature at the airport, CBS 5 and KTVK understand the importance of neighborhood-level weather conditions for Phoenix-area residents - especially because temperatures can vary by 5 or 10 degrees or more, depending on your location and elevation."

The 3TV and CBS 5 WeatherBug Schools Program: Schools in the Phoenix area are invited to join the WeatherBug Schools Program to have their weather information and images used on-air. Additionally, data from the school's weather station supports STEM initiatives in the classroom. Combined with severe weather alerting, the weather sensors provide school faculty and staff with critical information to make important safety and transportation-related decisions.
