Windstream Communications Executes Agreement with Allied Fiber for Dark Fiber and Neutral Colocation

NEW YORK, June 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Allied Fiber, the United States' first open access, integrated, network-neutral colocation and dark fiber superstructure, today announced that Windstream, a leading provider of advanced network communications, including cloud computing and managed services, to businesses nationwide, has executed an Indefeasible Right of Use (IRU) agreement and lease for dark fiber and neutral colocation to expand its network between Miami and Jacksonville.

This agreement is a part of Windstream's continuing focus on the construction of its long haul optical network, called WINterstate. This long haul, 100G "express" network offers other carriers and large enterprise customers low latency, high bandwidth network solutions.

Windstream will now connect to Allied Fiber's network-neutral dark fiber route from Miami, FL, to Jacksonville, FL, which consists of a custom 528-count Corning SMF-28e+ cable and integrated neutral colocation facilities approximately every 60-miles. With Allied Fiber's access flexibility, Windstream can now break out of the long haul route to service ILEC customers in Daytona Beach, FL, as well as Enterprise customers at key access points along this 360-mile segment of Allied Fiber's Southeast Route.

Windstream will leverage Allied Fiber's dark fiber network and neutral colocation facilities in Florida to interconnect its own internal network elements as well as provide access in to its entire network in the state to meet customer demands for greater capacity and more efficient and cost-effective service offerings. By establishing a presence in the Allied Fiber colocation facilities on the East Coast, Windstream will provide its customers with a direct, pysical layer access point into their regional dark fiber and high capacity transport network connecting its service areas.

"Windstream is a marquee customer for Allied Fiber," states Hunter Newby, CEO of Allied Fiber. "We are very excited to have such an outstanding service provider within our facilities and look forward to helping them continue to reduce their operating expenses while also driving higher margin revenue."

"Allied Fiber is an excellent opportunity for us to expand our service offerings," said Randy Nicklas, CTO of Windstream. "We have been pleased with their product and support team and we look forward to growing more with them in the future."
