This Summer, Take A Unique Trip Through America's Rich Past With A Revolutionary Online Course "United States, 1865 To The Present" From HISTORY Channel® & University Of Oklahoma

NEW YORK, May 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- This summer, A+E Network®'s HISTORY® CHANNEL and THE UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA (OU) invite life learners and students to take a unique and engaging trip through America's past with the online, multimedia-enriched course "United States, 1865 to the Present".  First offered this past January to rave reviews, this groundbreaking course brings together the resources and talents of the HISTORY Channel, one of world's top television networks, award-winning professor, renowned historian and best-selling author, Dr. Steve Gillon, and OU, one of the country's leading institutions of higher education, to present stimulating new ways of learning about the past.  "United States, 1865 to the Present" will be offered this summer in three condensed sessions: June 8 (4 weeks), June 29 (7 weeks) and July 7 (7 weeks).

HISTORY

Designed by an accredited academic team from OU, the innovative course features professionally-produced video lectures from HISTORY® that look and feel like documentaries, alongside quizzes, independent discussion groups and social interactions between students and professor.  And uilt on OU's proprietary Janux platform, "United States, 1865 to the Present" is taught within an interactive learning community allowing students the opportunity to enjoy the course anywhere and anytime.  And, unlike traditional MOOCS (Massive Open Online Courses) where viewers may feel as if they're eavesdropping on a class, Professor Gillon's lectures are addressed directly to those watching online, imparting a personal touch not found in similar courses.

Aside from targeting life learners, "United States, 1865 to the Present" has also broken ground as the first TV Network-branded online course offering transferable college credit1.  Whether a current college student seeking to meet graduation requirements or a high school student eager to jumpstart their college education, students completing the for-credit course will receive three transferable college credits and a badge of course completion.
