Fayette County Public Schools Selects Blackboard

WASHINGTON, May 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Following an evaluation of the industry's leading learning management systems, Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS) in Georgia has selected Blackboard's innovative classroom solution for K-12, the company announced today. Throughout the review process, Blackboard was the only vendor that met the district's needs and requirements, from products and services to support and expertise.

FCPS will work with Blackboard to implement products and services to maximize student achievement and improve how the district reaches and engages students, parents and its stakeholder community. In addition to mobile, website and communications solutions and professional services, Blackboard will deliver the district's first learning management system.

Recognized as a Top Digital School Districts Using Cutting-Edge Technology by the Center for Digital Education, the district's partnership with Blackboard represents a true cultural transition in how FCPS utilizes leading technology solutions to drive digital transformation.

"When our district was ready to make a significant change in how we use technology to empower the learner, Blackboard emerged as the right partner to help us achieve our goals," said Dr. Joseph Barrow, superintendent, Fayette County Public Schools. "Our district is taking the steps to change our teaching and learning culture and improve student achievement by leveraging Blackbord solutions and expertise. We look forward to leading by example and becoming a model district throughout Georgia."

To promote learning and achievement of its more than 20,000 students at 26 schools including the Open Campus and Alternative School, FCPS officials sought to implement one unified platform to connect its teaching, learning and community engagement initiatives. The district previously leveraged free solutions that easily extended their student information system; however, they felt this strategy would not fulfill their long term vision of implementing a 21st century learning environment for staff and students.

"We applaud FCPS for taking these important steps to help learners reach their full potential," said Mark Strassman, senior vice president of product management for Blackboard. "Bringing together disparate systems and solutions will transform the ability of the district to reach and engage the entire learning community and empower students to succeed. We are excited to partner with the district to help them realize the difference that comprehensive learning solutions will make on student achievement."

Through partnerships like this, Blackboard's solutions and services are used by one in three U.S. school districts, including 70 of the largest 100 districts, and serve over 20 million K-12 students.
