Centralized RAN, or C-RAN, is an architectural shift in Radio Access Networking design, where the bulk of the baseband processing is centralized and aggregated for more distributed radio nodes. C-RAN can now provide better performance and economic benefits for companies, such as baseband pooling, enhanced coordination between cells, virtualization, network extensibility, smaller deployment footprint and reduced power consumption.
