New LeClairRyan Blog Explores Legal Side of the Information Economy

ATLANTA, May 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- LeClairRyan, the national law firm, today announced the launch of a new blog focused on the sweeping legal ramifications of the rapidly evolving information economy. The blog, called Information Counts, comes at a time of rising concern about data privacy and cyber security amid headline-grabbing data breaches at major national retailers, telecoms, universities, media conglomerates and more.

The blog, which went live yesterday at http://informationcounts.com/, will include commentary and posts from LeClairRyan lawyers in eight different offices, including members of the firm's Privacy & Data Security practice team. "Our aim with the launch of this new blog is to provide perspective on the impact of the technological changes that are happening in our society at warp speed," said John P. Hutchins, a LeClairRyan shareholder and leader of the firm's recently opened Atlanta office. "That includes privacy and data security concerns, but also social media, the cloud, mobile and big data."

The different moving parts of the information economy are all interconnected, with wide-ranging legal, risk-management and strategic busines ramifications, he noted. "We're focusing on what really counts, which is why we are calling the blog 'Information Counts,'" said the veteran attorney, who concentrates his practice on commercial litigation and various types of transactions and compliance advice involving information technology, intellectual property, and privacy and data security.

Initial posts at Information Counts cover subjects such as:

  • "How the Computer Fraud & Abuse Act Can Help Victims of a Data Breach Catch the Bad Guys"
  • "What is 'Personal Information'?  It Depends on Where You Live."
  • "Do You Have a Data Breach Response Plan?"

LeClairRyan offers a full array of legal services related to the information economy. These include cyber security risk-assessment and incident response; regulatory and compliance counseling; policy/best practices program development; procurement, outsourcing, e-commerce, and information management.
