Docker Named a "Cool Vendor" for DevOps by Gartner

Docker, Inc., the organization behind the open platform for distributed applications, today announced it has been included in the list of "Cool Vendors" in the April 21, 2015 report by Gartner (News - Alert), Inc, Cool Vendors in DevOps, 2015. In the report, Gartner notes, "As virtualization and cloud applications grow beyond being single images run on premise to being comprised of multiple tiers that can be run and scaled in a hybrid cloud, new approaches are needed to reduce complexity."

Docker is an open platform for building, shipping and running distributed applications. Docker containers work across any infrastructure, liberating applications from the constraints placed on them by a given infrastructure, significantly accelerating the application development lifecycle. The result is an opportunity to make continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines much more efficient which results in much faster enhancements to applications and more reliable code.

In less than 24 months, Docker has become one of the fastest growing open source projects ever, with over 1,000 contributors, more than 300 million downloads of its technology and over 100,000 Dockerized applications. Docker has formed significant partnerships with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google (News - Alert), IBM, Microsoft, Red Hat, and VMware.

"Docker has gained great traction within the developer community for how efficient it makes the individual developer and increasingly it is becoming a powerful tool for operations as teams at look to scale the production of a new generation of distributed applications," said David Messina, vice president of marketing for Docker, Inc. "We believe being named a Cool Vendor by Gartner for DevOps validates the powerful operational role that Docker can play for enterprises interested in evolving their applicatio infrastructure from dev all the way through to production."
