Go Green and Help Celebrate Earth Day 2015 with Fujitsu M10 Servers, Helping Customers Build Energy-Efficient Data CentersSUNNYVALE, Calif., April 22, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- To commemorate #EarthDay2015, Fujitsu is showcasing several innovative green technologies of the Fujitsu M10 server running Oracle Solaris that allow customers to create more eco-friendly data centers by reducing space requirements and decreasing energy consumption leading to drastic reductions in the carbon footprint. The explosive growth of servers in data centers today poses long-term energy challenges and IT leaders are implementing "green computing" and consolidation strategies to ensure a sustainable future. According to Alex Lam, vice president of Enterprise Products at Fujitsu America, Inc., "The Fujitsu M10 server is the ideal platform for moving to 'Green IT.' Within Fujitsu, one of our IT groups recently replaced five legacy systems with three modern Fujitsu M10 servers, supporting Oracle E-Business Suite. As a direct result, the organization is now enjoying a 50 percent decrease in energy consumption, 40 percent savings in monthly maintenance costs and a significant reduction in data center footprint." Mr. Lam further notes that the innovative green technologies of the Fujitsu M10 servers are demonstrated throughout the entire system including Elastic Power Management and Capping capabilities, high compute density, Liquid Loop Cooling (LLC), and high efficiency power supplies, all of which help customers enjoy significant energy and cost savings. Elastic Power Management and Capping enables automatic reduction of power to idle components and provides the ability to flexibly cap power consumption. Fujitsu M10 servers also employ high-efficiency power supplies in all models. Both features help customers to control and significantly reduce energy consumption. The Fujitsu M10 systems with SPARC64® X+ processors provide five times the processing performance of the previous-generation SPARC ENTERPRISE® M-series servers in less than 1/10 of the space and power, effectively reducing the carbon footprint of mission-critical, data center computing. Oracle Solaris helps extend the savings with built-in virtualization that simplifies workload management, drives up server utilization, and drives down power requirements. The high availability features of the Fujitsu M10 servers and Oracle Solaris redce the need for redundant systems, even further reducing space and energy requirements. The Fujitsu M10 server's internal LLC design uses a hybrid cooling model; heat is moved away from the processors using six pumps on the CPU/Memory module that circulate coolant through an air-cooled radiator. This design offers greater efficiency because less energy is required to remove the heat generated by the processors. The LLC system is sealed for life and is maintenance-free, with none of the external connections of a traditional liquid cooling design. Fujitsu M10 received the Japan Environment Minister's Award for Global Warming Prevention Activity in the Technological Development and Commercialization category, recognizing Fujitsu M10 servers' advanced energy-saving innovations.
