Yanbing Li, Vice President And General Manager At VMware, Headlines Inspiring Speakers At IEEE Women In Engineering International Leadership Conference, Empowering Female Technology Pros

PISCATAWAY, N.J., April 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Yanbing Li is the Vice President and General Manager for Storage and Availability at VMware, and as such, is one of only 14 percent1 of engineering professionals who are female and a far tinier percentage who are upper-level female engineering executives. From April 23-25 in San Jose, Yanbing Li and a strong representative community of female leaders hope to take a major step toward changing that disparity in the technical industries by supporting and inspiring women at the IEEE Women in Engineering International Leadership Conference (WIE ILC). The conference is the only one in the world focused on promoting the future of mid-level women engineers toward breaking the glass ceiling and entering the executive ranks. It will be held April 23-25, 2015, in San Jose, Calif. Li will serve as the luncheon keynote speaker on Saturday, April 25, at 12:15-1:40 p.m. Registration is now open here.

Yanbing Li provides an exceptional model for women hoping to break into technical and STEM leadership. She holds general management responsibilities for storage and availability services for VMware vCloud® Air™, VMware's public cloud platform; she also leads product development in the areas of availability for the Software-Defined Data Center Division. Li serves as an expert member on the China Cloud Computing Expert Committee. She served on the U.S. National Delegation to the ISO/IEC (International Standard Organization) Plenary Meeting on SOA and cloud computing. Being a mother of three, Li enjoys the challenges and fulfillment of managing a busy personal life and a stimulating career. Appropriately, she will speak on how women can pursue career success in technology and innovation while staying true to themselves.

When asked why she thought this conference was important, Li said, "Leveraging IEEE's deep influence and reac in technology, the conference offers a great forum for women technical leaders to come together as a community, provide inspiration and support to each other, connect and network, and collectively shine light on the importance of increasing women's representation in technology."

Among other executive leaders speaking at the conference are –

  • Brian Krzanich, CEO, Intel, who will address the impetus behind Intel's industry-leading diversity in technology initiative
  • Lisa Su, CEO, AMD
  • Rebecca Jacoby, CIO, Cisco
  • Patty Hatter, VP & GM, Intel Security
  • And many more

The event begins with pre-conference activities on Thursday, April 23, in San Francisco, including a Women in STEM Think Tank discussion at Square headquarters and an opening reception at Yammer headquarters. Interactive conference tracks that fuel innovation, facilitate knowledge-sharing, and foster discussion and collaboration follow on Friday and Saturday, April 24 and 25, at the San Jose Marriott. A free virtual conference track is also available online. A few of the many stimulating and educational workshops from which to choose include: empowering the next generation, the balance myth, financing and launching startups, what to expect the next five years in tech, robotics, overcoming fear of failure, building your own brand, how to think like an entrepreneur, and how to build management skills.
