Redfin Teams up with Move for Hunger to Benefit Food Banks Nationwide

Redfin (www.redfin.com), the customer-first real estate brokerage, today announced its first company-wide nonprofit partnership, with national hunger relief organization Move For Hunger (www.moveforhunger.org).

Redfin will support Move For Hunger by hosting food drives, organizing team event fundraisers and through individual employee donations. The company even created its own cookbook, "Redfin Recipes: The Real Tastes of Real Estate," made up of favorite recipes submitted by Redfin employees. The cookbook includes more than 100 recipes from across the country. All proceeds from the cookbook go to Move For Hunger.

Additionally, Redfin is encouraging its home-buying and selling clients to donate their unwanted food when they move.

"This is a partnership that just makes sense," said Move For Hunger founder Adam Lowy. "Together, with the help of Redfin employees, we will educate thousands of individuals about local hunger issues while providing them with a simple way to support their communities during their moves."

Move For Hunger was founded in 2009 by Lowy, whose family has owned a moving company in New Jersey for 90 years. Lowy grew up seeing how much food was wasted when people moved, and founded Move For Hunger to help solve that problem. Move For Hunger works with relocation companies to collect food that would otherwise be left behind when people move, and then deliver it to local food banks. The organization has donated more than 4.6 million pounds of food to food banks in 48 U.S. states and in Canada.

"Redfin employees, especially our agents, have been excited for a more structured program to support their communities," said Scott Nagel, president of real estate operations at Redfin. "Working with Move for Hunger is perfect because we can involve Redfin clients as well."

Founded by technologists, Redfin employs a team of experienced, full-service real estate agents who are advocates, not salespeople, earning customer-satisfaction bonuses, not just commissions. Redfin.com features all the broker-listed homes for sale, as well as for-sale-by-owner properties that don't pay brokers a commission. Redfin also offers online tools, built by its own software engineers, that make the entire process of buying or selling a home easier and more fun. The company serves major markets across the U.S. and has closed nearly $20 billion in home sales. In 2012, Redfin was named one of The DIGITAL 100: World's Most Valuable Private Tech Companies by Business Insider.
