Nucleus Research Value Matrix Finds ERP Reaches Cloud Tipping Point

Cloud-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions are finally gaining steam and vendors offering cloud solutions are starting to significantly outpace those that are slower to embrace cloud options, the H1 2015 Technology Value Matrix for ERP from Nucleus Research finds.

"While customers have been slower to migrate to cloud-based ERP compared to other enterprise software, such as CRM, we are now seeing a tipping point where the cloud is starting to take charge. Given the cloud benefits of lower cost, more flexibility and faster deployment times, we predict cloud ERP will only accelerate and quickly become the dominant solution. Cloud is changing the pace of ERP innovation," said Rebecca Wettemann, VP of research at Nucleus.

All major vendors have made new product announcements within the past six months, most of them around cloud. As the cloud makes ERP more accessible throughout organzations, usability is now emerging as a key differentiator. The cloud is also driving integration with other applications such as embedded analytics, supply chain, and HR functionality (such as payroll) driving further automation and reducing redundant duplication of data saving businesses time and resources.

"With greater integration opportunities come integration challenges, as few companies are actually willing to completely replace their existing ERP footprint today. Many are looking to take advantage of innovations such as mobile and cloud for new capabilities and to integrate more quickly with other business applications," said Anne Moxie, analyst at Nucleus Research.

Mobile application development is also driving improved usability along with significant gains in functionality within vertical and micro-vertical spaces. Leaders are showing expert understanding of where the ERP market is heading and continue to find success investing in core verticals, pushing to distribute these solutions globally.
