BELLEVUE, Wash., March 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Technology Business Management Council, a non-profit organization dedicated to standardizing and promoting best practices for running IT like a business, opened registration for this year's lineup of nine industry and profession-specific workgroups. Designed to provide a forum for IT leaders to collaborate and define best practices for TBM specific to their industry or role, this year's workgroup themes include: Insurance, Healthcare, Oil & Gas, Power & Utilities, Regional Banking, Global Banking, CFO of IT, Technology Infrastructure Efficiency, and IT Strategy and Planning. The workgroups further the TBM Council's mission of establishing business management standards that empower IT executives to collaborate with their business partners on identifying and executing the most impactful technology strategies for achieving their corporate objectives.

Hosted virtually, each workgroup is designed to promote cost transparency, business aligned decision-making, innovation, and operational agility. According to Chris Blelloch, Vice President of Global Infrastructure and Platform Services at AOL, a participant in last year's workgroups, "Most technology leaders are facing an increasingly complex landscape. By having Technology Business Management conversations, they are addressing questions such as, 'How do we capture and report our usage and cost data?' and 'How do we justify to our internal customers whether those costs are in line with our industry?'  The TBM Council Workgroups provide an opportunity for tech leaders such as myself to discuss new ways to improve efficiency, create value and be more business-minded in our decisions as well as our conversations with our peers."

Each workgroup is chaired by an industry leader from a leading organization in each vertical or role, an expert from the Council's Technical Advisor (Apptio), and a representative from either KPMG, ISG or Troux. This merging of skills and perspectives provides for a rich, substantive, and actionable output from each workgroup.

TBM Council 2015 Workgroup Lineup:

The TBM workgroups were established to address the TBM Council members' requests for more industry and role specific applications of TBM disciplines, including transparency and benchmarking, to drive business aligned decision-making, fund innovation, and improve agility. This year's workgroups are focused on progressing the content of the TBM Framework and forthcoming TBM Book to further Technology Business Management as the industry standard approach for communicating the cost, quality, and value of IT investments.

"The TBM Council's framework is a great, open standard to orient companies toward running IT as a business, but it really comes to life when using the specific language and metrics of success as defined by your industry and business," said Steve Bates, principal for KPMG's CIO Advisory practice. "These workgroups are designed to take TBM from theory to reality in a context that's more relevant and credible to consumers of IT in your industry."

TBM Council membership is open to any qualified IT, finance, or business leader and TBM practitioners who meet the applicable membership standards. For more information or to join the TBM Council, please visit www.TBMCouncil.org
